Good places for guitar setup?

Post by In Ruins » Wed March 16th, 2011, 7:34 pm

Anyone know where I can get a good guitar setup for a good price in Atlanta? I have a Gibson Les Paul studio and it seems the setup was mainly for standard tuning, I'm in C standard. It always seems like its going out of tune also. What strings do you people like using for drop tuning? I'm using 10-52 now and they're decent.
Any suggestions will help.
Thanks

I recommend Eric Pelt at Earthshaking Music in EAV. Dude gives it to you straight, he'll even recommend not getting something done if he doesn't think it'll make much difference. That kinda honesty just doesn't happen often in sales.

Is that the place right next to 529?

I know this probably seems really obvious, but I'm often surprised by how many people don't know it. Most tuners on decent guitars have screws on the outside of the tuning keys. Tighten those up, not too much, but just to point that they start to resist. It does amazing things for keeping your shit tunedl I check mine about every other time I change my strings.

He's way out in the sticks, but Brian Malone (from Armazilla) does my guitar work, though he's mainly a guitar building instructor now. Check for him through Southeastern Guitar (I think that's the name). It's somewhere in Gwinnett. I've never been there since I just give him my stuff when we hang out. He does awesome work and for a lot of big names (if that matters...).

Good to know, thanks.

Yeah I did tighten those screws a while ago, I'll give it a try again, I actually think the nut needs to be filed down where the G string sits. All notes that are hit below the 12th fret are sharp on it, so it seems the nut might be a little high.

Maybe you are focusing on the wrong thing. Maybe you are actually having problems with your strap. I have no idea what those problems could be, but if you are having them Kirk Hammett can probably help you solve them for the price of a used LP studio, case of strings, hardshell, gross of picks and, well, another perfectly decent strap.

But their handmade! In Italy! And they have Kirk's name on them!

I actually caught him on That Metal Show last night, talking about the guitar straps. Apparently, this is mostly a custom kind of thing.
