Creem is back...again?

Creem magazine was the greatest rock mag ever, no hyperbole.

It came out of the MC5 era of dirty Detroit garage rock and always followed whatever music was happening that was real, no matter the genre. It got a bit weak near the end when it tried to compete with Circus to sell to the hair metal crowd, but when it was good it was life changing. I remember a weak reboot or two in years past, but I really hope that this one will pay tribute to the mag's legacy and still cover the cool, happening shit of today.

If you are unfamiliar with the zine - or just miss its killer journalism - go browse through the plethora of material cataloged on www.creemmagazine.com.

Looks and smells for real this time.

Only reason I started writing when I was a kid. Meltzer, "The Daupin," and Bangs were more interesting than Treasure Island and Edgar Allen Poe. The Stones live "review" by Charles Bukowski rearranged my life a little. Then I saw Barfly on The Movie Channel and put it all together and saved up lawn-cuttin money and bought Ham on Rye.

We grew up very much the same. Funny that. Barfly definitely changed my life, too. Add in some Videodrome, Iron Weed and Night Flight (the visual equivalent of Creem) and voila!

I'm dying to find a copy of this: Plasmastics: Your Heart in Your Mouth by Dauphin. Someday...

Is this a book or the essay he wrote "out of the asylum?" I've got the ish with the essay, which still blows my fucking head off.

I've never seen it, but I'm pretty sure it's a book.

It looks like the Creem website has been updated since I started this thread. That old Plasmatics article was on it. I glanced at it, but planned to read it through this week. Hopefully, it will reemerge once the website is complete.

Someday when I make it up to Detroit I'm getting a Boy Howdy tattoo. And I'd kill for a can of beer.

Have you seen that Plasmatics documentary made by Rod Swenson? Obviously, it's pretty biased, but it's still interesting as hell. What a fucking band. I hate, hate that I never caught them live.

Me too kay! But, I think you already remembered just how much I LOVED Wendy O. & The Plasmatics, right?! ;)
Actually, the closest I came to seeing the Original Plasmatics, was in 1987, when they toured w/ Wes Beech (the only original Plasmatics member!) for The Maggot's tour @ The long gone Metrplex, w/ The Mentors opening!!!

THE MENTORS! You axed for it....

Um, yeah, the Creem site's been updated sorta. Talked to a bud of mine who's talked with the gentlemen folk responsible for the Creem ressurection and it sounds like it'll last for about 20 minutes. Hopefully I can get a byline in there before it's wormfood.

Sounds about right. Bummer. I wish they'd digitize the whole back catalog and put it online in a functional manner. That would make my year.

I had a dream last week that they did it like MAD did w/ their archives and put it on 25 CDs for geeks like me to scroll through on their sticky laptops.

Yes, please.

I haven't seen MAD in years. It does still exist, right? Man, that was some seriously subversive shit. Kids today have it tough in their Disney sterilized cocoons.
