Vinyl

Post by Knucklehead » Fri April 6th, 2012, 3:12 pm

I have decided to start buying vinyl again. (And I feel all giddy and 16-years old).

My question is this: where do you guys get it? Is there someplace better than particular labels? (NWN, Anja, etc). And I'm talking about metal, of course.

It's always worth checking the websites for the new releases on (and distro'd by) NWN! and Hells Headbangers. Sign up for newsletters from other labels/distros so that you know what's coming out. Amazon and eBay have their place, too.

Go buy a bunch of Stew's shit, so I'm not as tempted.

I already have. I had made the decision, but his offer was the final straw.

Looks like all of the bases have been covered, but Dark Descent is worth a mention also. And the NWN forum Brian listed can be great. Pay close attention to the "Do not trade with this person" threads though. I've yet to have a bad experience and ended up with some great stuff that would've been a bidding battle nightmare on the ol' eGay.

Very good call. I love their stuff, but buying from Europe and shipping is a murder.

Planet Metal gets most of their stuff in. There is also a new distro called Vinyl Kingdom that imports a lot of their records and they'll even add records from HRR to their orders if you email in advance so that you can buy with less shipping cost.

A follow-up, which is mostly just out of curiosity: what kind of turntables do you guys have.

I don't own one, but the Technics SL1200 is a great model. Don't think it's made anymore.

Funny -- I bought one yesterday. There are some ridiculous prices in eBay, but they can still be had for relatively modest prices.

I'm interested to see how the no-frills, 'audiophile quality', $150 turntable funded by Kickstarter turns out.

I'm currently still running through my entry level Sony turntable. Works just fine.

That looks great. If only it played 78s too.

I'm happy with my Numark turntables, so far, but I'm looking for one for upstairs and the Uturn would look nice on the shelf.
