i've done just about everything there is to do in the workforce and i can say that i now have a pretty cool job! not a great company, but a great job. i'm a glassbender at a neon sign shop. i bend glass tubes into the shapes, designs and letters you see lit up all over the world. the company actually pretty cool, just a little too laid back. but i work the second shift basically by myself..........that means that i can do my work at anytime b/w 5pm and 8am. so if there is a show i can leave work early and then go back 4 hours later and finish my work! there are exceptions though, like if something has to be made and sent off that night or early in the morning i have to stay and make sure that it gets done.

I quite like my job, teaching swim lessons but mainly lifeguarding for like 10 years : )
If i need to take off for a show or take a month of work its not a problem. Very grooved and laid back.

hail slack!

I do maintenance at one of the dorm here at UGA and it's very laid back and easy so I like it. Except when the little fucks get drunk and break every ceiling tile on the hall.

....and on THOSE days, they must die......painlessly if necessary... --Oh, wait. :)

Blaze, that sounds like a really cool job, although I'm trying to think how a company could be "too laid back." "Great work, there, dude, but we, uh, forgot to make any money so we can't pay you."

I'm a lead customer service rep at a large call-site, basically it's a job I fell into years ago...I was desperate, took a test and applied, and it's evolved over the years into this. Pay is decent, the benefits are great, the evening hours kinda suck since I have to take vacation time to go to most shows...but they were willing to work with me around Friday nights and WREKage, so that was cool.

I thought you worked for the IRS, Paul..which kinda got me excited when I saw you replied to this thread, cause I wanted to say "IT'S APRIL 15TH!!! GET BACK TO FUCKING WORK!!"

I have a warehouse job basically for a company that manufactures pain management tables and other shit for Lithotripter machines. We also have a hefty supply of parts for litho machines and field service engineers around the country to service them. The main part of my job should be shipping and recieving and doing inventory crap, but mostly I work on sleeping and relaxing and doing internet crap...like posting this right now. But for my skills (E.g i'm half retarded, no college education, ect..) the pay is pretty good, the benefits are good, and some of the people I work with are pretty cool. I guess the thing that sucks the most is I'm the youngest person that works here and just about the only one without a spouse/kids/family/braincells/common sense so sometimes i'm on a different page.

We have a winner so far...

I've worked random shit jobs on and off over the last few summers but nothing career-wise.

no, its like this.........they say one thing and it takes them forever to actually do it. on top of that they don't have "absolute" rules of conduct or work or whatever. that makes it a lot harder to keep order in the shop and sometimes good people get screwed for not being complete jack-offs to the owners. we get paid by the work we do, kinda like a commission basis, so if the work is limited and you don't bitch enough you can get screwed.

other than that i love my job.

I am a warehouse mngr. for a Boar's Head Deli distro in Mableton. I started 7 yrs ago when i was in Abwhore and it paid for most of our merch and CD's. Now it pays my house note and family obligations. I hope to leave it in the future. I'm starting a Tshirt biz and its going to take time to get it up and going strong.
