UN to consider a "blasphemy ban"
http://www.smh.com.au/world/push-to-cal ... 26dlu.html
Obviously this would be devastating for metal.
How will the Ross Bay Cult continue?
What will happen to War Against Christ?
Will we see mass protests, complete with flaming inverted crosses and church-burning montages, storm the streets of Oslo and Stockholm?
Is NWN closing up shop?
Are Impurath and Slutti666 going to enter the world of 'don't drop the soap?'
More on this later when 'People are Fucking Retarded' continues.

Here's where you can tell the U.N. to fuck off:
http://www.un.org/en/contactus/
Defaming religion is patriotic!
Edit:
How lame! The comment box only allows 200 characters. What a bunch of tyrants. This was my original email to the U.N.:
Might as well just stick to my original suggestion and type in: "Fuck off!"

Instead I was only able to write a couple sentences along the lines of: "Don't pass this law. It's bad."I understand the U.N. might be considering an anti-blasphemy law. While this law would most likely never be ratified or recognized in my country of the United States, I am concerned about atheists around the world who would be affected by this law. The world is full of many different types of people and beliefs. Some of them, though a minority, are anti-religious like my own. Religion in any form causes far more harm than good. Critiquing it and calling attention to its faults is a positive way to express oneself. If this anti-blasphemy law passes, those, who don't believe in gods, will be persecuted by theocratic nations' governments like Pakistan and Iran, for example. Just being who you are would become a crime. It's time the U.N. stood up to religious bigotry and recognized that non-believers make up a sizable portion of the world's population and that their rights are just as important as any Muslim's, Christian's, Jewish person's or any other person that holds a religious belief. It will be a sad day for the progress of the human race if the U.N. even considers debating this ridiculous, hurtful law.
Thank you for your attention.

There is a sizable portion of Europe's population that is Muslim. It wouldn't surprise me if after this anti-blasphemy law is merely introduced at the UN that countries like Gemany will have political parties that try to introduce similar legislation in their own countries. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, and with that comes an even larger amount of militant Islamists. This law doesn't even have to pass to cause damage around the world. It already sets a precedent of the idea of protecting religion and of simultaneously squashing the rights of non-believers. If the UN debates this law it will only strengthen similar such laws in countries such as Pakistan and Suadi Arabia (our so-called allies). The world is getting smaller and it is just a matter of time before laws like this one affect more and more of the civilized Western world. The first response to tyranny is to speak out against it.
sounds like it's being patterned after "hate crime" legislation

What exactly do you mean here?Moloc wrote:Religion in any form causes far more harm than good.
If you are referring to the countless pro bono trips to impoverished countries by church organizations to rebuild after disasters, or treat the ill, or build shelter for indigent folks, then you've got some logic problems.
If you're talking about extremism, you have to realize that extremists, no matter what religion they hail from, account for a rather small portion of "believers."

You're right I am talking about extremists, but most religions' sacred texts are in and of themselves extreme: The Bible says to stone insolent children, the Qur'an says to kill homosexuals, etc. Just by being a member of that religion one gives the extremists permission to commit the heinous acts that they do. As I see it religion itself is extremist (except for maybe Buddhism). More acts of hatred and terrorism and war have been committed in the name of God and religion than any number of humanitarian missions.
You're cherry-picking, which is exactly what extremists do. There are equally beautiful passages in the Bible and Qur'an.Moloc wrote:You're right I am talking about extremists, but most religions' sacred texts are in and of themselves extreme: The Bible says to stone insolent children, the Qur'an says to kill homosexuals, etc.
What gets people in trouble is how they interpret a passage. Not everyone can go to theology school, learn a bunch of dead languages, and read secondary lit on specific texts in order to make an educated interpretation. Therefore, you get people blowing themselves up or spreading hate in the name of their respective religion.
But, still, it doesn't make it all bad. That's just a narrow take on something that can be transformative for another. Just b/c you don't buy into it, or can point out textual anomalies, doesn't mean it's inherently cancerous.
