Actually, no he doesn't. Webb has them. I asked him about it earlier, and he reminded me how much Mastodon hated the original performance. I haven't heard it yet, but, I don't think it's going to be usuable. Aside from the fact that there might be ownership problems with Warner to deal with now...just ask SYL about what they've run into recently...holly wrote:Thomas Hildebrant probably knows where this shit is.Fn Dan wrote:I don't know where the cds/tapes of the performances are. Yes, let me go do that...Fn Dan wrote:Actually, no he doesn't. Webb has them. I asked him about it earlier, and he reminded me how much Mastodon hated the original performance. good point i retract my post. but it kinda says something for the atlanta scene that every band that makes it detaches. guess they got tired of all the bullshit too huh?BoB wrote: I don't see any problem with putting a well known band on. It's a good hook for people who know the well known band to buy/listen to the CD. They are then exposed to other bands. You could also argue that it adds credibility to the other bands. A lot of people probably have no idea that Mastodon is from Atlanta and I think that's a problem with our scene. A band does well and then completely detaches from here - wouldn't it be nice if they could help elevate things a bit with their ascent?
hope you all fucking rot

I don't even consider Mastodon ever a part of "The scene". I think they were probably signed to Relapse (Based on "ex members of") before they even had one rehearsal. There was even an interview where they said something to the effect that they were the only metal band in the area...so...for the record..FUCK MASTODONG. I don't have anything personal against any members of the band and I think the music is ok, but they've never been a part of "the scene".

i agree! they had ample opportunity to help some of us local bands out but instead they just pretended to be "the only metal band in atlanta". i like all of them and i'm happy that they are doing so well, but they did nothing for any of us here.
Because I wanted you to know that I don't care to answer your question.Death2all wrote:well if you didn't care so much then why take the time to repost
I didn't ask Andy what they have or have not done for the scene.
I asked him what they have done to say "fuck you" to Atlanta.
& also, I would hardly call Solid State a major label.
They had been on Tooth & Nail, which is probably a similar sized label, for four years before that (starting as Luti-Kriss and changing into Norma Jean).
Norma Jean still plays locally very often. Everyone knows they're from Atlanta because they proclaim it.
What would you like them to do?
If you talked to some of them they are great guys. Jake the bassist is always at metal shows and will talk with everyone.
Here's a better question, What have they done to hurt the scene?
Since bands from atlanta are guilty until proven innocent it seems..
