The Kagan Effect
Metal fans that derail a conversation about albums, bands, or songs to bring up people in metal bands they have met are engaging in The Kagan Effect.
Example:
Metal fan 1: I really like Mastodon's newest album. It's really groove heavy and melodic.
Metal fan 2: Oh yeah it's good. I met Troy Sanders. He was a cool guy.
Metal fan 1: >looking perplexed<
Metal fan 2: The Atlanta metal scene has some good bands in it.
Metal fan 1: I don't really prefer a lot of bands from the local scene.
Metal fan 2: There's some good ones, oh did I mention I have a band? MY band is signed to Deathgore Records.
Metal fan 1: What style is it?
Metal fan 2: Style? Oh it's hardcore death metal and black metal. >taking a breath< I met and had a beer with Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse.
Metal fan 1: >looking at his watch< Well I gotta get going. >walking away<
Metal fan 2: Hey did I mention I met..........
The Kagan Effect drives people away and once the pattern is seen they don't want to have anything to with those that exhibit this behavior.

I mourn as and with DarkWolfen as our metal hero is gone.

I remember the very first thing he asked me when I met him was if I was Jewish.
