I voted Halford. Id say Matt Barlow deserves to be on this list too.

Id still vote Halford, but I like all these vocalists (Matt Barlow included)

Complicated. While all of these singers are responsible for some of my favorite songs, and while they each have their strengths and flaws which make any decision a matter of weighing pros and cons, swings and misses, moments of grandeur and moments of cringe, I think I shall say...

Welp, kinda just contradicted myself from the other thread.

Tough choice here between Halford and Dio. Stained Class is my favorite heavy metal album of all time and Priest my favorite band... but I'm not sure whether I'd say Halford is a better vocalist than Dio. They're very different stylistically so it's hard to compare the two but in the end it came down to their discographies and Halford wins that one.

It's a tough one, I could also argue that between Mercyful Fate and his solo stuff that King Diamond is the master. Pair that with his look and being an actual satanist and Halford looks more and more like just a sexually repressed mind case, he said himself that the leather look was his way of expressing his homosexuality. Not that I mind, but it just makes my mental debate that much tougher. One should also mention that Dickinson is still belting his shit at the top of his lungs. In the end I voted for King, maybe it's not fair to pose such a question.

As much as I love King Diamond I've never really thought of him as a "great" vocalist. Talented sure, definitely unique, but I've always thought of folks like Halford and Dio as being superior. Granted, my judgement is solely on vocal talent.

Then I also consider how amazing of a lyricist and conceptualist he is, his stories are amazing and really engrossing. Plus his vocal melodies and placement are too notch.

EDIT: I had no intention of saying anything negative about Halford when I started this, but my evolving train of thought is getting to be a bit negative. Now I also have to mention that I'd rather listen to stories about demonic possession and macabre awesomeness than thinly veiled lyrics about boning/getting boned by dudes. Now that that's out of the way I will finish my statement by saying that Halford and Priest completely rule and I listen to that shit almost as often as I do the King...

I went to that other thread first and Halford immediately came to mind. I like the others but damn, he is the man!
