Uhhh... What?
Holy fucking facepalm. A self-appointed music and cultural expert discusses metal and homophobia.

what a fake faget. faket.Sure, Priest was making music, but can you name all of their post-Painkiller albums off the top of your head? No cheating, no Googling. I sure can't.

I saw Rob Halford's side project, 2wo, in the Netherlands at the Walkdrock Festival in 99(?) just after he came out of the closet. There were folks in the crowd yelling "flikker!!!" (Dutch for "faggot"). I turned around and said to them, "He doesn't know what you're saying!" One guy said, "I don't care" and kept on yelling "flikker!!!" at Halford.
(This would have been a much better story if it had some violence in it, but, it doesn't. Sorry.)

I think the article is very true. Metal has always been very macho and until the 2000's guys pretty much had to keep their homosexuality quiet. Kinda like in sports. I remember when Sebastian Bach wore the "AIDS kills fags dead" shirt. Metal wasn't very open to homosexuality until the last 10-15 years. And honestly this is likely more of a first-world acceptance. I doubt that in latin/south America or in some very conservative Asian its as accepted.
