Someone recommend some bands that would fall under this "genre."

Yob.
i like their new album. I don't know if it's exactly like Isis or Neurosis but it's similar.

Not as crunchy, but same idea.

If you like Neurosis you've probably heard Tribes of Neurot.
if not you should check them out. It's a side project.

They did this cool thing with the Times of Grace album by Neurosis.
Tribes of Neurot has an album Grace that is playable on its own, but is meant to be played simultaneously with the Times of Grace album.
I've only had the chance to hear one song like that.

Southkill and The Narrows are similar to Pelican. Neither are quite as heavy but have lots of long, drawn out fuzzy riffing instrumentals and are definitely in the same chill vibe.

Newer Anathema is kinda similar to Neurosis I guess, and the last Tool album too.

I have one of the albums already on my computer. I'm not sure how many albums there are, but I think it's the most recent one. Great stuff to mellow out to. I'll be on aim (at home anyways) after 7.

I've been listening to Minsk and Mouth of the Architect as of late. Found them on another board, very good bands.

I'm not sure, but from the sound of it, bands like Pelican are influenced by whats called "Post Rock." Bands like Mogwai and Arab Strap started it in scotland and soon followed by Explosions In The Sky, Mono, and GodSpeedYouBlackEmperor. They are all no vocals, kinda mellow but doomy, melancholic. Really awesome bands and kick ass live shows.
Mogwai are the single loudest show I've EVER been too (louder than Withered!!) and are my favorite band thats not "metal" however there are some pretty heavy parts in thier early albums. I suggest listening to "Ten Rapid", "Young Team", and "Come on Die Young (CODY) which are their best albums.
Mono are from Japan and their new album is great too.
check them out, hope you like!!!
