Metal article at Slate.com

Post by DeathfareDevil » Sun October 2nd, 2005, 3:38 am

There's nothing new or revelatory in it, but it's surreal to see mainstream mention of Leviathan, Xasthur, and Sunn 0))). (I guess you can consider Slate.com mainstream.)

Or course, the idea of a "resurgence" in metal is bogus. But then, journalists often like to imagine themselves astride cultural "trends".

And I'm not at all sure why the author uses the word "hipsters" at the article's end.

Anyway, have at it.

It makes tons of sense, especially when it's tied to mentions of Lightning Bolt and Wolf Eyes.

I am completely unfamiliar with them. Did one of them just play with Khanate? Who are they?

Wolf Eyes just played with Khanate.
Lightning Bolt is awesome you should check them out. Both bands are heavy yet not metal. And lots of indie rock kids like them, and I think the article is trying to say those bands were a stepping stone to making metal accepted by a broader audience.
