I'm sure it went over like a lead balloon, but I saw him open waybackwhen for Christian Death (his first show as Mortiis in the States ever, I think) and that show was....interesting. Not metal by a long shot, but not this weird disco shit he's been doing lately either.

his set was awful! i haven't heard any of his recent material so i was expecting total atmospheric forest music performed by a goblin. what i got was a second hand version of NIN with bad make-up.

Does anyone remember all the Misfits songs?
I've got:

20 Eyes
Astro Zombies
Mommy Can I go Out and Kill Tonight
Skulls
Die Die My Darling
Last Caress
We Are 138
Earth AD

And for anyone not stupid enough to leave when there was still feedback and the house lights weren't up yet, then you got to hear Bloodfeast.

heh.... Actually, his old set, opening for Christian Death, sounded a lot like atmospheric forest music performed by a goblin and some friends. It was really different, yet not bad.

Weird show, too, as my friends in Godhead shared that side dressing room at the Masquerade with Mortiis.

My opinion (for what it's worth...which ain't much):

Agony Scene - Decent band, crap mix.

Mortis - God Awful! I'm open to drum machines and synths but you've got to add something to the live element to make it entertaining/interesting and that was not the case. Anyone, and I mean ANYFUCKINGONE could have played those riffs and beats on the spot with no prior knowledge of the music. Apparently he is rebelling against the talent of his former band.

Himsa - again...decent band, crap mix

Behemoth - Fucking incredible band, crap mix.

Chimaira - Decent band, decent show, awesome mix. (It actually kinda pissed me off after Behemoth's mix was so weak.) I'll say this though, Kevin Talley is the best thing that has ever happened to that band...period! I do have to agree with Holly about the strobes though. If I were epilleptic, I would have bitten off my tongue.

Danzig - Great set, great sound, great backup band, I was about to go outside and hand out some flyers (for the Package show this Saturday, Oct. 29th at Mulligans*) but they started playing the Hunter so I had to go back in.

*denotes shameless plug

The Misfits set - Phenomenal! just incredible. I know it's punk, and punk is easy, but the energy of it, the freakish hulking presence of Doyle (Regarding the question about his diet, I've heard that the guy eats nothing but steak. After seeing him, I believe it.), and actually hearing Danzig singing those songs live made my whole week. They played Last Caress! I lost my mind...and my wallet. (It's a red, gator-skin(I think) money clip. I'd really like to get it back if anyone happened to find it.)

Anyway, that's it. Great show overall. Glad I went even though it meant spending Saturday morning at the DMV.

I actually thought Behemoth's sound was excellent. I was sitting towards the left and had earplugs in though, so it probably sounded from my angle and with the plugs.

yeah, I was outside during the first 2 bands and in the lobby during Chimaira. I've seen them before anyway.

I fucking love Behemoth..it was my 4th time seeing them and I'll go see them again! I crowdsurfed during their last song, Chant for Eskaton 2000. Danzig was also killer. I have to admit I'm not all that familiar with his music (it's not that I haven't heard it before) but it was good metal! and punk for the Misfits! During Danzig's/ Misfit's set, I had an older friend next to me who told me which song came off of which album.

I was sitting near the soundboard (seems like it'd be a good place for sound) but I went down to the floor during their set. Their mix wasn't as bad as Agony Scene's, but I just couldn't hear/feel the kick drums. It just got muddy to me and for a band that heavy they usually sound fairly clear. Maybe if they had strobes to punctuate every kick...

i thought that their sound was horrible during the first two songs but after that the soundguys seemed to get things going smoother

Behemoth's set list

Post by DeathfareDevil » Sun October 30th, 2005, 11:20 pm

Did Behemoth play any of their pre-Satanica stuff? Actually, I suppose I could hunt around and find their setlist online ...

I don't suppose they played "Pure Evil & Hate". When I get tipsy I tend to listen to that song on repeat.

It's always weird when one of your favorite songs of one of your favorite bands sounds not one bit like anything else in their catalogue.
