Eh...being realistic, I don't think Amorphis can do a headlining tour of the US. So, if they want to tour the US, they're going to have to hitch a ride with another tour, or team up with someone else and form another tour. Considering that they're breaking in a new vocalist though, I'd bet that they'll simply take some time off and prolly write some new material with the new guy, then look to do a tour.

Didn't they headline when they came with Kovenant and Moonspell? They were planning on coming anyway, so they must have taken everything you said into consideration and decided to come anyway. The main difference is the crowdsize that Type O can draw, and I'm sure they didn't have that on that Moonspell tour. If they make it over that would be great, but if not, oh well.

That's actually a good question. Between the WREKage crew, we couldn't recall Amorphis touring the US. Tim thought he remembered their coming a LONG time ago, but nothing recent. Amorphis hasn't posted anything on their website concerning what their plans are, unfortunately. I'd love to see them tour, but I'd also like to seem them on a good bill with bands that will complement them well.

Amorphis did a small tour of the Northeast US in March/April 2001 with Opeth. I caught two of those shows, one in Massachusettes and one in New Jersey, both being metalfests. This was right at the same time Am Universum came out.
They also toured the U.S. in 1999 with The Kovenant and Moonspell. I know that date skipped Atlanta and went to Spartanburg, SC. But I think Amorphis didn't show up on that date.
In 1994 they toured the US opening for Entombed to support Tales From The Thousand Lakes. They played the Masquerade and after the show I was able to interview both bands for my station at the time, WEGL.
So, yes they have toured the U.S. The tour Tim remembers is likely the one with Entombed.
