And the reason there are no brutal death bands to speak of is because there is no type of music full of more divas than deathmetal...
thanks dude...it's easier for people to put shit down then to actually come up with something themselves...

i never said they couldnt play there instruments, im just not really into thrash too much lately at all..
fair enough, no one wants you to like what we do if you don't...we do this shit for ourselves...we never cared about what "people" want to hear...fuck that

Everytime I say that people just tell me im too close minded, but classical music is my favorite type of music and maiden is my favorite band ever, so I dont just listen to thrash and brutal death.

I just listened to Sybaritic and it wasnt bad, not into the vocals or the melodic parts. Mike is a killer drummer. Still not my style, but i would say the best metal band in atlanta.
Fair enough, I agree that the melodic hardcore/metalcore thing is WAY over-exposed. But grouping every band that isn't technical or brutal (which is getting way old to me) is probably why people call you closed minded. You can make fresh melodic music and still be heavy as hell; Arsis for example.
Neal and Matt, you guys are cool w/me! I was just making a point in support of a good band.

I saw Sybaritic for the first time back at Meehan's this summer and I really enjoyed it. The vocals were few and far between so I cant see how that would have turned anyone away even if they didnt like it. Usually I say I like going to bigger shows than smaller local ones but Sybaritic was an exception. Seeing them play and the stage presence they had going at Meehan's made that show seem kind of significant rather than the usual local shows where nothing sticks with you and you dont get anything out of it.

Im not saying everyone should love Sybaritic, because I know out here on the boards we have alot of mixed opinions, but to say they arent thrash, or close to it is kind of ridiculous. I think Sybaritic is probably the most fun band to watch that we have here in atlanta. I think they will get a kickass response at Katatonia. And plus, these dudes are local so we all should be helping to support them or any local band unless it really really sucks.

I would be going to Katatonia tonight if I had someone who wanted to go, I dont feel like making the trek down to atlanta by myself this time. I am a Katatonia fan though.

I mean I guess what im trying to say is this, Sybaritic is opening for a touring band(s) that travel the world and have made it playing extreme music, why in the world would you want to hinder people from coming out and getting some of our local commrades the maximum exposure possible. Every fucking one of us on this board knows how difficult it is to have a metal band and manage your daily life and even more difficult to make it your life and living. Why in the world would you say random crap to put down every band on here unless they truly deserve it? (Not that many people take it seriously) But dude matt, someday you may have a band, and you are going to need people to come out to the shows and give you the time of day for things to work. Just saying, the true metal scene as stated before is getting smaller and smaller, we need to support the guys in the scene before we expect others outside of it to.

that is totally ideal to expect every metal head to come out to every metal show whether they are evn that into the genre or not, i never put down sybartic, i just said moonspell is fucking gay, and im not into what sybartic is doing musically from what i heard on there profile and when i saw them live i liked the solos, very ideal, when i get my band shit together eventually i dont expect every dude in a band and into metal to come to every one of my shows, just people who are actually into the style, thats the way it should, i dont need support if you dont really give a fuck.

Well i just thought i would let everyone know how the night went... We got screwdededed... Hardcore... like fist up the ass screwed... its a good thing no one was there at 7! wen we went on and played 3! songs... cause we were all so pissed off it sounded like SHIT! It was mainly the sound guy for Moonspell that screwed us... and it didnt help that basically everyone working at the Masquerade was on a goddamn power trip (except the young house sound guy, he did all he could)... I personally had 3 people, that i had never met, come up to me and stress their anger and disbelief at how a local act was being treated... We have a show Jan 1 2007 (SludgefestIII) @ the Masq and after that i believe we will be washing our hands of them... I know the Masq wont give a shit or miss us one bit... but we wont miss being treated like shit either... I know most all bands in Atl and everywhere has been thru something similar... and I know there is no way around it... but FUCK is it irritating... anyway... thanks to the couple people that were there and showed support...

Not that I'm trying to be a rabble-rowser here...
But damn, you guys all ought to boycott the place... and there ought to be some way to inspire the bigger acts to do the same. Sadly, it's like Matt's "Ideal" -- it ain't going to happen. As long as big acts will come to town, the local ones will find it to their advantage to try out for an opening spot. And no one can blame you guys for that. Just pisses me off that you guys struggle like you do and all you get is bitches like the masquerade taking advantage of your efforts.

It also pisses me off that I didn't get to hear Sybaritic play, and I had to suffer through 3 or 4 songs of that godawful Daylight Dies. What a sack of crap that band was... I am very sorry I bailed on you guys but I just couldn't take it any more!

Well I wish I could have seen Daylight Dies. I think they're a great band and this is the 2nd time I've missed them because they went on earlier than I would have expected.

Emptywords, just what happened? You said everyone was on a powertrip, so does that mean they rude to you? With the sound, that happens sometimes. Try to let the sound guy know what you need to hear in the monitors, which I assume you did.

well ratanda... It wasnt the sound or the sound guy, it was the way were treated... when we signed on to this show we were told we go on at 7:30 and play for 30 minutes... we thought hell yeah short and sweet it will be fun. I get there and after 30 minutes of looking I find someone to talk to about setting shit up and he tells me that we have been kicked down to 25 minutes, i thought ok kool i dont care... as the night went on, ever 30 minutes or so of watching these three bands set their shit up on stage, we are told u kan only play 20 minutes then 15... then the fucking start time moved up to 7:10... so we have no crowed, no time, and space on stage to do our thing... It was mostly the doing of the Moonspell sound guy... though the only direct communication between us was when Dado couldnt find an outlet for his amp an asked the kool sound guy if there was another extention anywhere, the moonspell SG said fucking find one er pack ur shit up and go home... he then tried to say something else and Dado walked away... it definately wasnt worth the trouble... and as far as the masq staff on a power trip, I had to drag information out of people it was rediculous... i got yelled at several time while trying to pack my shit up to get the fuck out of there b/c they didnt take the time to find out wat i was doing, even had a door slammed in my face... we've played the masq many times and it has always been loads of fun and never this much trouble... I dont really plan on going back... As much as id hate to miss Dying Fetus Cannibal Corpse Necrophagist and Unmercyful. Im going to see Waited and Threat of Life and the 10 High instead... I think about missing that show and i kall myself crazy, but after last night i personally would rather support my friends...
