and for anyone who missed it, you really missed it.
Novum Organum started the night off right with their intense riffage and blazing guitar work. You'd think it was Opeth without the vocals. Although they pleasantly surprised me (and hopefully many others) at the end of the set by closing with 'This Mortal Coil' by Carcass. That was awesome!
Alexandria then took command of the stage and owned it for the next 45 minutes. Their guitarists and bassist played some of the best prog-power metal I've heard in a while. At least once I thought Dragonforce had snuck in and took over with a female lead singer. LOL. It was great! And Allie's vocals were on par with some of the great operatic metal sirens in today's scene.
Halcyon Way... what can I say about my boys that hasn't already been said? The 'birthday' song was a nice surprise - the way they blended the White Zombie 'Thunderkiss 65' into 'The Hidden'. I loved it! And the new song 'Desolation Day'... that has got to be the most devastating metal they've played yet. Damn fine job!
Eclipsed by Sanity finished the night with every song from their 10-month history together. For those who were able to stay - and especially those who may not have seen them before - I hope you enjoyed their style of power-thrash metal. I did. I always do.
again, thanks to the crowd for coming out Saturday night and supporting heavy metal in the ATL. And I'd like to especially thank the bands for entertaining us. I may not be able to do a lot for the scene, but I'm trying.
Thank You.

Gotta say, that was a great show all around. Most Improved From Their Demo award goes to Alexandria. Best Cover award goes to Novum Organum, with Halcyon Way coming in a close second for "Thunder Kiss '65".and for anyone who missed it, you really missed it.

Yep! My crappy-sounding distorted video is here.Novum Organum started the night off right with their intense riffage and blazing guitar work. You'd think it was Opeth without the vocals. They have a better version up on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bxJnBBhHxg
they very kindly gave me their only copy of their demo, so I'll play some on WREKage....probably in two weeks' time, since there might be no-one there this Friday. Well, Tim might show if he knows I won't be there, since he owes me money.

MUCH better than I was expecting from their demo.Alexandria then took command of the stage and owned it for the next 45 minutes. Their guitarists and bassist played some of the best prog-power metal I've heard in a while. At least once I thought Dragonforce had snuck in and took over with a female lead singer. LOL. The turnout was surprisingly good, and I was particularly surprised at the size of EBS' crowd. Great show from them, too. It's good to see younger kids turning out good metal....kinda gives me hope for the future.again, thanks to the crowd for coming out Saturday night and supporting heavy metal in the ATL. And I'd like to especially thank the bands for entertaining us. I may not be able to do a lot for the scene, but I'm trying.

The venue is about the best you could hope for in a 'smallish local shows' context. Yeah, it's a bit odd since it's a Christian venue (and oriented toward a younger crowd, so no alcohol, swearing, etc.), but refitting an old 3-bay movie palace into a two-stage venue, with sloping floors, was a great idea.
And the food/drink prices are great!
