Alcest/Deafheaven (+Speedwolf) - 529 - Friday March 23rd

I think deafheaven is more "black metal" than alcest, which isn't saying much, but I enjoy them nonetheless. Either way, to each their own I guess, if you really just don't like the music then sure, but I know a lot of people on this forum shit on anything they perceive to be "hipster" (do hipsters even listen to metal? i was under the impression they listen to indie rock and jangle pop or whatever hell else is in fashion) without even giving the music a chance.

Cool show. I caught a bit of Uberchrist then rolled over to Octopus Bar for some killer beers, a late dinner. (Their food is really amazing.) and to listen to some hipsters (no question about that here) play some pretty freaking cool gypsy music or some shit. Made it back for a killer 40 minutes of Alcest and then...they just kept playing and playing and playing and...Went for some outdoor drinking and came back for Speedwolf to slay...for what, five songs? Way too short of a set, there. Caught about three Sadistic Rituals songs (good shit, too) and had to crash as it was already 3am. Woke up with the worst hangover I've had in months.

It would have been nice if Alcest had done less than an hour and Speedwolf got a decent set length. They need to come back ASAP.

Fun as shit night. Just wish I hadn't somehow lost a necklace that I've had on for about a dozen years. Since there was almost no pit, I don't know how that happened.

I really hope 529 relocates the stage to the back corner.
