Hey thanks for coming out.
While I am not a huge fan of either style, I thought both Theocracy and A lower deep gave solid performances. My only complaint was that Theocracy's set was RIDICULOUSLY long. I didn't time it but it had to be in the 1 hour and a half to two hour range. I would have been more impressed if they had hit me with a solid 45 minutes and left me wanting more. To each his own I guess....

Theocracy actually played for about an hour and 20 minutes. They did this because they were the 'headliner' of the night and I had told them they could play as long as they liked up to about 75 minutes - which they kept it at 80 actually (not 90-120 minutes as previously guessed). The 20-minute epic song is the title track to their forthcoming album. And yes, it is quite long to the uninitiated. But then they have also always closed with the thrashy 'Ichthus' from their first album.
the setlist included these tracks:
Regardless, thanks for the support of the show to everyone who has posted here. Not every band will be everyone's cup of tea, but I try to match up some great acts on stage that I feel would appeal to the majority.
Thanks again, and I hope to see you all again on Feb 2nd when Circle II Circle headlines the night (for about 75-80 minutes) with locals Halcyon Way and Eclipsed by Sanity. Special guests of the evening also include Odin's Court from Maryland. This will be another great night of melodic, progressive power metal. Don't miss it!
the setlist included these tracks:
- A Tower of Ashes
Victory Dance
Nailed
The Serpent's Kiss
The Writing in the Sand
Hide in the Fairytale
Martyr
Mountain
Mirror of Souls
Ichthus

Isn't your son in Theocracy?pathfinder wrote:Theocracy actually played for about an hour and 20 minutes. the setlist included these tracks:The reason I gave them this time on stage is because they had planned to headline a metal fest in Albany, GA last August where they were going to debut the 20-minute epic song. But the metal fest was canceled before this could happen. So I had promised them that I would eventually put together a show where they would have time to play it on stage. No, it's not your average metal song, but Theocracy is not your average metal band either.

they put on a very solid show but I think an hour and 20 minutes is a far stretch at a local show (even for a headliner). Just my opinion though, I enjoyed the show regardless. Thanks again for having us.
i wasn't at the show but i'd have to totally agree. we sounded off on this very topic in the general discussion a week or so ago.

He is but Hoyt's been pimping them since before his son joined the band so it's not like he only promotes them because of that.Blarg! wrote:Isn't your son in Theocracy?pathfinder wrote:Theocracy actually played for about an hour and 20 minutes. well, I stated my reasons for allowing them so much time in my previous post above. This was not an 'average' local show. Theocracy played last on the bill. They merely wanted the stage time to perform what would have been their headlining festival show - which they were going to be allowed 90 minutes. They played 80 minutes here. If anyone thought it was too long or that it became boring after a while, it was their choice to leave. Yet at the end of the set, the room was still almost as full as it was when they hit the first note.BlazeTSU wrote:i wasn't at the show but i'd have to totally agree. we sounded off on this very topic in the general discussion a week or so ago.Wireneck wrote:Hey Hoyt,

At most of the shows I put together, I allow the opening band anywhere from 30-40 minutes on stage, depending on how much of a draw they are. The second band usually gets 45-50 minutes. Then the closer/headliner gets as much as an hour in most cases. If it's an out of town band, I may give them longer just to make it worth their trip.
No one is tied to the room. They are free to come and go as they please.
If anyone thinks they can do better - start investing your own time and money into these shows. At least I'm trying.

I'll def check one of your shows out soon, but I also recommend listening to your customers (if we are your customers? haha) when it comes to things. If set times are your biggest complaint, then you're doing a good job!pathfinder wrote:well, I stated my reasons for allowing them so much time in my previous post above.
