Actually a lot of fun. I only caught the tail end of the last Seraphix song (an awesome WASP cover). Metal On Metal's the only album I've been familiar with. I never owned it and don't particularly remember it being an incredibly standout recording. There's been so much hype about these guys with the film and all, but they really put on a rocking, solid good show. No shortage of drum, guitar, and dildo solos. Super nice dudes too.

Okay y'all, Anvil DID destroy The Variety Playhouse last night!!! I'm old skool, and I first heard of them on the long out of print now, Canadian label, Attic records compilation called "Metal For Breakfast" from 1984!!! :0
You just can't get more METAL than Lips playing his guitar w/ a shiny gold vibrator!!!

Image

I also have to say what a bunch of very, very cool dudes they were!!! In the middle of the show, Lips said he loved the crowds reaction so much, he was gonna personally thank each & everyone of us for coming out! And he DID! As well as Rob & Glenn!!! Man, they put on a bad ass show!!! :D

Oh & here's me w/ Lips! :D

Awesome, Jimi, glad y'all enjoyed it!

That pic of Lips playing guitar with a dildo reminds me of Mattias from Freak Kitchen at PPUSA....THAT was a fun show. 8)

Just went to the Variety Playhouse tonight to see Steven Wright...it was my first time but it's a nice venue. I wonder how the sound is for bands since it was just a comedy show though.

I've seen Mogwai there twice. The sound, if handled properly, is loud and incredibly clear.

Yea, the Variety is one of the better venues in town for music, but really heavy metal shows rarely come there. Anvil was an exception.

I've seen artists like Hawkwind, Steve Morse and Ozric Tentacles there, but the venue doesn't book much metal.

Hilarious. It was just him for an hour and a half with no openers.

My dad was telling me about how he saw him in 1988 before I was even born. Now for my 20th birthday, he was seeing him with me.
