I thought Motoread was great. Glad to finally see them. Slayer's set was actually pretty killer. I don't remember having seen them play Die By the Sword in the recent past. And ditto about that crowd. Also, I was expecting them to be much younger. Encoutering a sea of people closer to my age so enthused by scissor-lifts, Blue Man Group/Cirque du So-gay stage antics, and lame ass hip-hop infused breakdowns fell somwhere between somewhat amusing and just plain pathetic on the what the fuck? scale.

I really enjoyed seeing Slayer with Holt. Surprised me, but he really added something (enthusiasm?). Great stage set, too! Inverted cross made of Marshall cabs that spit fire. A thing of beauty...

Motorhead were...alright! I love that band and they can do no wrong in my book. I'm sure playing in that heat wasn't easy on those old dudes, but it sure didn't slow down Mikki Dee one bit.

Anthrax phoned that shit in. Run of the mill set, rockstar stage banter...whatever. It's still way better than anything they did with John Bush. Who was on drums? That wasn't Charlie...was it?

Even from the lawn I noticed that about Mikki Dee too. Dude had some energy. I read that it's the drummer from Shadows Fall playing for Anthrax.

Best Slayer set I've seen since the 80's.

Holt did a great job with Slayer. I wish they would have had him a little higher in the mix, actually. Overall that's the best Slayer show I've seen in quite a while...and I've seen them something like 15 times now.

That was my first time seeing Motorhead. I enjoyed their set. They didn't blow the roof off the place or anything (except for Mikki Dee's drum solo), but I was just giddy to finally see 'em live. Would love to see them headline to get the whole vibe, hear more tracks, etc.

Anthrax was not as good as when they played here a few months back, but I still had fun watching 'em. They had a guy named Jason Bittner on drums, which I believe is the drummer for Shadows Fall.
Let the joyous celebrations of Hell begin!

ratanda wrote:Anthrax was very very good, playing trusted favorites. Slayer was excellent, even from the distance of the lawn, and had an awesome stage. Tom Araya skipped a whole verse from Angel of Death and kept skipping the chorus from Dead Skin Mask. Didn't affect the overall show, and Gary Holt did a great job.

I've never been a fan of Motorhead and I thought seeing them live might get me more interested. Not really.

Saw one song of Slipknot and it was fucking terrible. Seeing them live I thought I might see/hear something cool, but didn't happen. I was blown away by the number of people who were uninterested during Slayer, but excited about Slipknot.
i was amazed/saddened that 3/4 of the crowd was there for slipknot, if not more. I too left after the first or second song of slipknot just to see the freakshow people were so apeshit over. it was awkward and embarrassing.
anthrax was a blast

Totally agreed. The Rock star Energy Drink Mayhem Fest seems to really be out there for the bigger acts regardless if it's real Metal (or even good music).

Oh yeah, during Slayer storm clouds began to form off to the side and slowly came closer to the venue. They came very close toward the end, and I really really hoped it would rain during Raining Blood.
