Heh, I saw Lust a few weeks ago at the Star Bar, at this thing called Twinkledome... got hit on by a bunch of drag queens, but I got my picture taken with Susanne and the others. I kinda like them even if they're not metal. The girls look like cute little barbie dolls.Blarg! wrote:Yeah,i saw branns wife's band LUST at swazeys and he was there,
anyways
They did change their sound,Maybe they dident have "making more fans" in mind, but I all i know is as soon as they signed with warner, they lightened up.

I think that Mastodon would have made the exact same album if it were released on Relapse. I really think they're making the music they want, and hoping to actually get paid for it some day.
Personally, I thought Blood Mountain was a hell of a step in the right direction for them, and while admittedly less heavy than say the Lifesblood EP, I think they really stepped up their songwriting quite a bit. Those riffs get stuck in my head for days.
Regarding the whole Converge thing, yes, the line-up switch from one year to the next is funny/ironic, but show line-ups are almost always based on album sales in a given market with no regard what-so-ever to artistic merit...like most other things in the music industry.

Another theory of mine is Mastodons Exsessive (sp?) Speaking and hailing of The Mars Volta, when they played ozzfest right after leviathan, they hung out with TMV quite alot and kept talking about how much they dig their sound and all this stuff..
So idk,I guess you either love it or hate it.
I hate it.

I can see what you're saying as I can see some influence there. (I would have just assumed they were smoking more pot, but pretty much the same difference).
I don't really like TMV either, but Mastodon's sound and song structure seems a lot more focused (and heavy) to me than TMV.
