They do that so you promote the show. Which is what a local opening band is suppose to do. If you're not carrying your weight why would they want to continue booking your band for sweet shows? As a band you either want it or you don't. The Masquerade on a show like Toxic could probably pick out of at least 20 bands to give those local slots too if they wanted. So you shouldn't whine or bitch. You should return the favor they did for you and promote the show if that means selling presales then sell some fucking presales. People are going to buy tickets anyway so why make it sound like a big deal?
And my opinion whoever that local band was that opened they do nothing for me. Maybe they're your buddies and you feel obligated to support them but I don't see how they got on the same stage with TH but more power to them.

On the contrary, I think most of us prefer the grimy byob no-security pisshole DIY venues like the old ps warehouse.regurgitated death wrote:I don't really know why everyone complains about the Masquerade. I think some of you bitches are just spoiled.

I'm pissed I missed doomed youth.

man youre getting me all wrong, im not whining or bitching about anything, im just saying the expectations for the Masquerade are sometimes very unreal. I've got no problem promoting but i dont think you understand just how difficult it is to actually make the presale sometimes. contrary to what you think people DON'T want to buy tickets because most people would rather do it last minute when they know for fact they can attend. Masq asked us for 60 tickets this show and we got 30. i think DY sold even less. Masq said it was going to be bigger than DRI where we sold 60. sometimes people just don't buy. the turnout was kinda weak. presales hardly change the turnout of the show except for the few close friends here and there that don't actually like the music. yes youre right they have a hundred locals they can put on which is why we end up with bands like Tetrarch opening for Exodusregurgitated death wrote:They do that so you promote the show. as for Doomed Youth, i know the guys, but only because i've met them at their shows. maybe they had an off night, like i said i wasn't able to catch most of it so i don't know how they did.
btw there were two locals so i'm only assuming you're talking about DY
You didn't like the Hell stage? Playing/Watching shows in that room is great.SadisticRitual wrote:Had a really fun time. This show should have not been in heaven, mistake number one. and we kind of ran in some shit with the masq at first but it was a pretty killer show.Knucklehead wrote:And ... How was the show?
I'm guessing your old city probably didn't have DIY venues either.regurgitated death wrote:I don't really know why everyone complains about the Masquerade. Or you've never been to a show at a place that isn't a huge commercial venue.regurgitated death wrote:I don't really know why everyone complains about the Masquerade. I like the Masquerade alright. Without it, I wouldn't be able to see a lot of my favorite bands. That said, I don't know how anybody could like that place more than spots like The Earl or the Drunken Unicorn. The Masq is hotter, has worse sound, more expensive drinks (by nearly double the price), a higher population of retards, and has a tendency to either put really bad locals on shows or have it so the locals don't match the bill at all. It's definitely a better place to see a show than The Tabernacle etc and it's pretty cool that they give us the inside scoop on upcoming shows via this board, but compared to DU or The Earl or the old 585....loses every time.regurgitated death wrote:I don't really know why everyone complains about the Masquerade. The masquerade is a shitty venue, but i accept its a shitty venue because of the type of shows they bring. For example, cannibal corpse, kreator, etc, might never play atlanta if it wasn't for them because i doubt they would want to play places like the old warehouse or even the archive. Point is, they bring out the really popular bands people would go see regardless of where they played, but they exploit this popularity and from when i've been there, they are really lazy about some stuff and really dick ish about other. I haven't played there but from what i've heard from various local bands, they can be way worse from a musicians point of view moreover than form an spectator's one.regurgitated death wrote:I don't really know why everyone complains about the Masquerade. We had a few house show places and a coffee shop that would do things every blue moon but stopped doing so when other business complained about the clientele it catered to.In Ruins wrote:I'm guessing your old city probably didn't have DIY venues either.regurgitated death wrote:I don't really know why everyone complains about the Masquerade. 585 was cool but I never had my window smashed in by some crackhead at the Masquerade. And don't recall ever driving all the way from Kennesaw to the Masquerade only find the show was canceled because somebody didn't pay the electric bill. All venues DIY or commercial have their downside. Yeah Masquerade has bad sound from time to time but they do 365 shows a year. 585 barely did 5 shows a month and the sound was bad for most of them.

you do a lot of shit talking regarding a lot of really popular and good stuff here, are you sure you didn't mean to start posting on the
ATLMETAL.COM forums?
and if you've never had a car break in at the masquerade than its solely luck

Surely cannot make everyone happy here, can ya?
Yea, the Masq is no prize with pricey beers, hard ass goons, and oddball line ups. But you know what? at least they give out some shows that would never been possible. Like Kreator, Marduk, Exhumed, Amon Amarth, Pagan Fest, Scion Rock Fest, and even Crass performance. Most of the great tours I know so far are the ones who would tour nearly the entire US and yet skip GA like a neglected retarded step-child as it really is.
So, while it is bogus, let's just alittle grateful that we get at least one good thing from them. Especially hearing Spewtilator play with the nifty sound system at the D.R.I. show last May.
Oh, and as for complaints of crackheads breaking into cars: It can happen anywhere else. Even within a private residential parking garage and a gated community as it already happened.
