The show was awesome! I got there right before Devildriver went on and they were good. I was in the balcony (sitting next to Paul) for Unearth and Dimmu...Unearth really surprised me because I'm not a huge fan of them but they kicked ass live! It definitely helped that they had Gene Hogland on drums. He always kicks ass!
It was my 5th time seeing Dimmu Borgir (they're one of my favorite bands) and they were awesome as usual!
and watching the crowd on the floor from the balcony was pretty damn entertaining too! There was some idiot in an orange shirt who started doing karate kicks during Dimmu and then a bunch of people just started moshing so he would stop.

Yep, great show.
The sound on the floor was pretty muddy (except for Kataklysm who honestly had one of the best mixes of the night).
I had forgotten about Hoglan filling in for Unearth so that was a pleasant surprise. (Hmmm...that hulking figure behind the drums looks oddly familiar)
Dimmu sounded muddy as hell on the floor which is why I headed up to the balcony after about the 4th song and it sounded great up there. I managed to spot a nice open seat and maneuvered into it with all the finesse of Spiderman after a few too many beers (Hi Amanda...Hi Paul).
I do wish they would have played a little more of the new album personally, but they played a fucking killer set so I have absolutely no complaints.

Excellent show!
Agreed on Kataklysm's mix....they sounded great up in the balcony, although the songs were a bit samey. I bought a t-shirt to show 'em some love.
DevilDriver were okayyy.
Unearth sounded better than I expected from a metalcore band and Gene woud have been great to watch....but they over-used those strobes so much, they were pretty fuckin' unwatchable. I just closed my eyes and listened since I was getting a headache.
Dimmu sounded good and played a good mix of older and newer stuff. I wish they could have played for longer than 90 minutes, but oh well. "The Insight and the Catharsis" -- one of my favorite songs -- and "A Succubus In Rapture" were the surprise highlights for me.
Pity Shagrath was sick; he went to see a doctor as soon as the show was over. All the rest of the Dimmu guys -- including Hellhammer -- came out to sign autographs. First time meeting Mustis, yay.
Turn your audio down before playing these, since they're distorted:

Shagrath was sick? Damn...well, he put on a great show though. That's awesome they came back out for autographs...I left as soon as the show was over though and I got their autograohs awhile back (minus Hellhammer of course).
Paul, were those videos recorded on your phone? or your camera? despite the distortion, it's pretty cool to see that again!

For real. This is the exact complaint I had with Chimaira on the BOTB tour. You don't have to use a strobe for every god forsaken breakdown. You don't want epileptics at your shows...we get it!WREKage-Paul wrote:Excellent show!

Strobes are a cool effect when used sparingly and in just the right places. Kinda like profanity...if you use it constantly it loses effect and just annoys people.

I was at that one, too.Strange wrote:For real. This is the exact complaint I had with Chimaira on the BOTB tour. You don't have to use a strobe for every god forsaken breakdown. You don't want epileptics at your shows...we get it!WREKage-Paul wrote:Excellent show!

We couldn't even go in to sit down and chill (read: there is no way we went in there to actually watch Chimaira) because the strobes were so fucking horrible.
They had the same strobe lights when they opened for Dragonforce a few months ago, too.holly wrote:I was at that one, too.Strange wrote:For real. I watched both bands at both shows...(Primarily because of the drummer on both counts) despite my retinas being fried to a crisp. But yeah, note to every Metal Core band; AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGLPLPLPLPLPLPLP *flops on floor and bites off tongue*holly wrote:I was at that one, too.

Digital camera, a Kodak. Not very impressive by today's standards.Metalfreak wrote:Shagrath was sick? Damn...well, he put on a great show though. I've posted the pics from the Dimmu show on my website:
http://jet13.hasweb.com/~paulcas/Dimmu- ... klysm-etc/
Considering they were taken from the balcony with a non-SLR camera, they came out a loit better than I expected.
