NACHTMYSTIUM recently blogged about the near fatal drive-by shooting that guitarist Jeff Wilson got caught in. Read below for the bands statement.

“Last Friday (April 17th, 2009) at about 5:30 - 6:00 PM, Jeff Wilson left his apartment building here in Chicago (that Blake also has an apartment in) to head two blocks away to our neighborhood grocery store. On his way out, walking back down the small side street right near our building….an SUV comes flying around the corner of a small side street just south of where he was walking, two men hung out of the window and opened fire in Jeff’s general direction (and many other people, including children…) towards someone located behind where Jeff was walking.

“Fortunately, Jeff’s amazing ninja-style, bullet-dodging skills kicked in, instinctively, and he some how managed to escape what became a crossfire of bullets and made it home safely with his smokes and a 2 liter of Diet Coke. Although the Diet Coke was tempting to Jeff, as he was out of breath and parched with thirst after running his ass off from the onslaught of violence, Jeff opted for a can (or twelve) of High Life that he found in the fridge….and then enjoyed one of his cigarettes, which he fought for his life to have.

“This, dear fans, is just one more example - smoking kills!!â€Â￾

Wow, a mobsters and gang-related driveby in Chicago? And here I thought that was all made up, like in that old Star Trek episode "A Piece of the Action"...... :D

Seriously, though, glad he's okay.

Smoking too much weed and walking through Cabrini Green willl get you killed. I did it drunk once, but it was about 20 below that night so I guess the guns were frozen.

Haha, what an awesome reference. That one's almost as good as the one where Abraham Lincoln presides over that gladiator style battle to the death between the crew and Genghis Kahn and his futuristic space counterpart villians.

I think that Cabrini-Green is closed now. The land got to be too valuable. When my wife was living in Chicago in 2001, developers were already building million dollar condos across the street. I think that most of the projects have been closed, now. A friend of mine was a public defender in Cook County -- she told me that they closed a lot of the projects on the South Side and moved the folks out to the near suburbs. Less crime in the city, more in the suburbs. For awhile, the cops (who were mostly Barney Fife types, used to kids stealing six-packs out of garages) were totally outclassed.

Yeah I went back a couple years ago and saw the whole place had been planted with gardens or something. THey are always playing shuffle with indigents in Chicago but it never seemed to make an impact on the level of crime that I could see. Fuhgeddaboudit... the cops there are more crooked than the gang bangers.

...pretty much exactly what they did in Atlanta when they shut down the projects and sent the inhabitants down to Clayton County.

It's gotten to the point that the sound of gunfire in the night doesn't even break my train of thought any more.
Let the joyous celebrations of Hell begin!
