Lilke Voegtlin, it is a tossup for me:
Iron Maiden/Accept in 1984 on the Powerslave Tour
Ozzy/Metallica in 1986. Metallica opened, supporting Master of Puppets. One word: Cliff Fucking Burton.
Headbanger's Ball Tour in 1989: Anthrax/Exodus/Helloween. Exodus stole the show.
Testament/Savatage/Nuclear Assault in 1990?
Voivod/Soundgarden/Faith No More in 1990. Soundgarden stole the show.
Slayer in 1991, supporting South of Heaven.
Mudhoney in 1992
Rage Against the Machine in 1993
Smashing Pumpkins in 1993
The Jesus Lizard in 1996 (Second or third time I'd seen them. This one was magic)
Unsane in 2002 at the Echo.
Gillian Welch in 2003
Slayer in 2003 (the one where they played RIB)
Celtic Frost in 2006
Nachtmystium/WITTR in 2008
Rock Hard! Festival in 2008 (Fucking Testament, Enslaved and Immortal)
Scion Rock Fest
Marduk/Nachtmystium (which, I think, was my 100th show. I know Tommy probably reached that mark after he had lived here for four months.)
Iron Maiden/Accept in 1984 on the Powerslave Tour
Ozzy/Metallica in 1986. Metallica opened, supporting Master of Puppets. One word: Cliff Fucking Burton.

This thread is awesome. Thanks for exhuming it Amanda.
This is by no means all-encompassing, but here are some of my faves:
Clash of the Titans, Omni, '91-'92
Metallica, Justice tour, 1990
GWAR, Melvins, the Genitorturers - Masquerade
Clutch & COC at the Howling Wolf in New Orleans
Pantera CFH tour at the Centerstage w/ Wrathchild America
Napalm Death, Carcass, Brutal Truth & Cathedral @ the Masq
Mastodon at the Star Bar
Mr. Bungle, HOB New Orleans
Tool, Aenema tour, International Brawl-room
Sepultura, FF, Fudge Tunnel - Chaos AD tour, Ballroom
Opeth/Lamb of God @ the Masquerade
Meshuggah, catch 33 tour
Pink Floyd - Division Bell, Bobby Dodd Stadium
Ministry, Sepultura, Body Count - Lakewood Fairgrounds
Cynic, Focus tour
Carcass & Pitchshifter - Heartwork/Desensitized tour
Like I said, by no means all-encompassing but almost all of these were some degree of religious experience for me.

Let the joyous celebrations of Hell begin!
Haha wow, when I had a list of shows (before my laptop got stolen) I think the highest was only in the 50s-60s range. I thought that was a lot!MS_39455 wrote:Ha, I've kept a list of shows I've been to over the years and counted 166 for 2009. I'm honestly not surprised. Jealous, but not surprised.MS_39455 wrote:Ha, I've kept a list of shows I've been to over the years and counted 166 for 2009. About 300 since I've been in Atlanta...about four years. Maybe 30 or so before then. Not much going on is Mississippi. I'd end up driving to Mobile, New Orleans, Birmingham. Even here to Atlanta on rare occasions. I absolutely love being able to see awesome bands virtually any night of the week. I dig this town most of the time.Spewtilator wrote:god damn Tommy! whats the grand total?
Yeah, pretty close average. Some weeks more, some less. A bunch of those are from doubleing up on the same night since the bigger venues are often winding down when the Unicorn, Lenny's, etc. get started.Knucklehead wrote:Dude -- isn't that an average of slightly more than three a week?

I don't keep count of the shows I've been to, just the number of bands and it's getting close to 500 bands actually. I don't think I've been to as many shows though!
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???
YES. Accept opened? I don't remember that. But I do remember seeing Maiden and Priest right after the other. Powerslave and Defenders of the Faith tours, respectively.Knucklehead wrote:

Saw Voivod open for Soundgarden at the Roxy! What?
Forgot about that Frost show. And then they were back weeks later with TYPE O.

All of these shows, with the exception of CF, were up in my homestate of Michigan. As for Accept, I only knew "Balls to the Wall" and wasn't really all that impressed, other than that fact that Accept was the very first metal band that I actually saw live. The Maiden set completely kicked ass, though, with the huge-ass mummy Eddie.VOEGTLIN wrote:YES. Accept opened? I don't remember that. But I do remember seeing Maiden and Priest right after the other. I saw Voivod and Soundgarden in a little hall in downtown Detroit. I remember that it was cold as fuck that night, down near zero. Anyway, FNM opened and Soundgarden was actually the special guest. It was a very, very strange bill. Voivod hurt my head.
That Frost show was fantastic, because I never got the chance to see them back in the day. When I heard the first couple notes of "Procreation of the Wicked," I almost wet my trousers.
Frost show was ineffable. I went there alone and 10 minutes later was arm-locked with like five other guys during Procreation. Remember the guy on the front side of the stage air-drumming the whole time? Insane. Only show I've never bought beer.
And Martin Ain...
Some guy in the crowd: TOM IS GOD
Martin Ain: WHO SAID THAT?! YOU! YOU! THERE IS NO GOD.
Tom: This song is called, "Into.. Crypt of RAYS."
