I grew up listening to shit like The Ass Ponys and Gwen Mars, along with a large variety of punk and hardcore. Nowadays, when listening to things other than metal, it's as varied as old country, a good helping of Stevie Wonder, or some sort of dream pop like Beach House or Spoonfed Hybrid.
I've also become pretty goddamn fond of various things like Death In June and Why?, thanks to my moronic cohabiteur, TehRothstantor.

Beat me to 'em.

I like Rush and Blue Oyster Cult and a lot of other older rock, but I'll skip over those in favor of more diverse fare:
Ozric Tentacles, as mentioned
Dead Can Dance
Emerald Rose
Faith & the Muse
Hidria Spacefolk <--- a lot like Ozrics, love 'em
The Last Dance
older Hawkwind
Celldweller
The Cruxshadows

Have you ever heard any of Nik Turner's solo stuff? It's ... weird (that goes without saying) and I love it. His album Prophets of Time is one of my favorites in any genre. "Stonehenge ... Who Knows?" is an absolutely amazing song, and if your consciousness is sufficiently, um, altered at the time, listening to it really loud is quite the trip. Personally, though, I haven't altered my consciousness in such a way since the mid-Nineties, but whenever my friends and I had those late-night burn sessions in the car, playing trippy music for each other, that song was a good way to make everyone yell, "holy shit!" through all of the swooooooshing guitar and keyboard effects.WREKage-Paul wrote:older Hawkwindkfoll wrote:Ozric Tentacles.

hehe, yep, I've heard some of Nik's solo stuff, and of course it's pretty damned weird, yet fun. I think the Stonehenge guys at WREK have played some Nik Turner on their show within the last month.DeathfareDevil wrote:Have you ever heard any of Nik Turner's solo stuff? Did you see him when he played here? At the Variety, I think, several years ago....
yeah, i'm not a collector anymore, but i wouldn't pay fifty bucks for a flexi disc! anyway the zorn tracks are on grand guignol and torture garden, so i have them (or some version of them).Spewtilator wrote:there is a john zorn / napalm death flexi 7" on ebay right now for like $50. its got 2 zorn tracks with napalm's malicious intent nestled in between. would love to have it if it wasnt fifty fucking dollars.spice wrote: john zorn (and most of the zornian offshoots)

No unfortunately i missed that. I also missed when return to forever did their reunion tour a year or two ago. I'm guessing DiMeola just played stuff from his solo albums right?ratanda wrote:I don't suppose you jazz guys went to the Al DiMeola show on Feb 4? It was really really good.
