Spewtilator wrote:"Greatest" is kind of a loaded term as there isn't really a way to measure greatness... or rather, theres many ways. National notariety, number of releases, record sales, etc.
This.
But given those factors and a few more I think a good case could certainly be made for:

Dwarfophile.
No, actually, I have no idea. I really like Kylesa and Hallow's Eve, but somehow I can't apply the word "great" (let alone "greatest") to them.

In terms of notariety and success - Mastodon
In terms of being unique and having a long string of quality releases - Kylesa
In terms of being fast and heavy - Withered
Kylesa and Withered also get points for being born from other awesome bands.
It's really impossible for me to pick just one because I like them all for different reasons
agreed

It was a big deal. Skipped school to see River's Edge. When "Lethal Tendencies" started, the whole fucking place erupted... I'm old.
i'm fairly old too- i was in college when River's Edge came out.
i am probably thinking kylesa is my favorite band from these parts, but i don't know about the greatest. (i have a soft spot in my heart for King/Kill 33, but that may be stretching genres.)
and yes, Hail Metroplex.

I should have anticipated the semantic/semoitc quagmire we'd encounter trying to respond to an intrinsically scientific inquiry, "The greatest band to come out of Jawjuh."
My wife ate twice-cooked pork from China Dragon last night and wouldn't stop talking about how it was the "greatest." Needless to say, I was up all night pondering the ramifications of a term that says so much and yet so little.

Cauldron Born or Living Decay. Living Decay is so good, every new song they play is better than the last. I will go as far to say they are the best metal band from GA, ever.
