Rush -- Beyond the Lighted Stage DVD.

Apparently my copy is on Blu-Ray, and the only hint of this is the tiny Blu-Ray logo on the back of the box. A lot of folks have been fooled by this and ended up with the BD edition instead of the regular...luckily I have a Blu-Ray player.

NME - Unholy Death
I was holding out for an original, but settled for the pic disc version because it came with a sleeve. I dunno why, but pic discs bug me. Colored vinyl is fine, but I'm just not down with the pic disc.

Mack the Messiah - Personality Kills a Killer
Anyone know about this? I bought it for like a buck on Amazon out of curiosity. It's not bad. Kinda glam, indie pop in places which is fine, but the one funk song really grinds my gears.

Got the Tigers Jaw s/t repress in the mail the other day. Wish I hadn't sold my first pressing, but the new one is awesome. Bright orange vinyl.

The Grave Upheavel demo tape I ordered came in a week or two ago. It kills. Members of Portal.

If it's the same as Mack Messiah then I know the guy that used to play drums for them. In fact COS played with them a time or 2. The singer is this weird old guy that plays guitar and uses a britney spears style headset mic. The first time we played with them we saw this guy walking around just being a weirdo outside the club in a KISS t shirt and sure enough he was the guitar player/singer. I couldn't tell you what it sounded like (this has been several years ago now) but it wasn't good.

That's the one. The main dude is that odd, crater faced guy that is at tons of shows, just standing by himself looking uncomfortable. Creative Loafing did a cover story on him a couple years ago as the coolest music fan in ATL or something like that.

I bought it solely out of curiosity, but it's not as bad as I might have thgouht.

Whoa, Kenny Crucial has a band!? I see that guy everywhere. He's actually a really nice dude. A conversation with him pretty quickly skids away into some other dimension...quite interesting/odd. Mack Messiah just jumped to the top of my "listen to" list.

Here's the story from a few years back, if you want the scoop. http://clatl.com/atlanta/what-makes-ken ... id=1266298
The comments afterwards are quite intersting as is his personal website www.kennycrucial.com. He comes off a bit...self important? He seems to actually think his presence helps draw people to pay to see bands live. Anyway, that kind of arrognance made me want to hear his creations for myself.

that was a good read. i remember asking my friend ebert who drummed for mack messiah "what was up with that old dude?" at one of the shows we played with them and his response was just: "i dunno man, he just likes music."
