That about sums up my impression, too. I spun it a couple times last night as back ground music and I was waiting for the hook, but it never came. Sucks. The acoustic track or intro seemed way to close to "Dee" for comfort. Hate that sophomore jinx...
Agony and Opium was such a badass record, start to finish.
I looked up that cover. Which
Faith is it by? It's not the DC band, I don't think.
It's this Sveeeedush band:

I liked A&O pretty well, but it sounded a lot like two guys ripping off Priest and Diamond Head with a killer vocalist over top. The demo that was pressed on vinyl by Unseen Forces is fucking nuts. I wish they could rock a few burners out in that style next go round.
But this rec is just a mess and doesn't add up. They've got all the tools. Maybe they'll figure it out.

Too many of their songs are too infectious: Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf, etc.
A buddy of mine, a bass player, once justified listening to them by claiming that their bassist was very talented. Whatever it takes to get you through the day, I guess.

This might sound cheesy as hell, but it kind of boils down to musicianship... and catchy shit. For an 80's pop band all of them were really good with their weapons. My best friend and main guitar player through most of my life and I were driving between here and Tampa before I moved here and were trying to figure out how they wrote any of their songs. There is not really the normal type of riffage going on, and while the bass holds it all together, some of the bass lines on their own wouldn't sound like songs. Weeeeeeeird.
I'm so afraid. Wolf knows where I am.

Ah, if you really want to push the envelope, check out Andy Summers' guitar playing. It's not Metal. But it's out there.
