Alcest/Deafheaven (+Speedwolf) - 529 - Friday March 23rd

First show in a long time... Just witnessed the beginning of a new form of metal that is acceptable to hipsters... Where head-banging and devil horns are frowned upon. Deafheaven was awesome and a good representation of the newly coined "Post-black-metal" but thankfully Speedwolf showed up to remind all the people that stayed what REAL METAL sounds like! I still hate 529...

Not a fan of any of the bands from the first show really but speedwolf played fucking amazing! They definitely need to come back and play a show where they can get a full set list in because they ripped! We had a blast as well thanks for everyone who stuck around for us we had a great fucking time! Also my first time at 529 and actually I really liked it. Overall killer show!

Deafheaven ruled. The frontman has great stage presence.
I'm glad I saw Alcest 2 years ago in Ohio but they were way better this time. Better crowd, better sound, longer set, and they played a lot of stuff off the first album, which is my favorite. The new stuff sounded great live too, even though I still haven't listened to it much yet. One of my favorite sets ever.
I went to McDonald's and by the time I got back, I only got to see 3 Speedwolf songs but they were great. Wish I could have seen their whole set.
Sadistic Ritual ruled...wish more people would have stuck around or mass amount of people that were outside would have came in to see them. Got the new shirt and it's awesome.
Great show...probably the latest I've ever gotten out of a concert (3 am) but it was so fun.

529 books great shows but it's too goddamn small for me...being that close to so many people is highly annoyingEcrypt wrote:First show in a long time... Its gotten bigger they knocked down a wall apparently. I wouldn't know because it was my first time there but it was pretty damn big for a bar venue.stygian will wrote:529 books great shows but it's too goddamn small for me...being that close to so many people is highly annoyingEcrypt wrote:First show in a long time... Alcest sounds like the radio band Incubus and is about as black metal as an extreme teen bible and just slightly gayer than 3 dudes fucking 4 dudes perfect for the typical 529 crowd
Speedwolf fucking ripped, and Sadistic was awesome until I had to leave under emergency circumstances. This part of the night was bad ass and worth waiting hours through the audio equivalent to a penis in your ear

If they don't bill themselves as black metal why compare them to black metal bands? And I guarantee you there is nothing on FM radio that sounds like Alcest. I'm sorry they are not extreme enough for you, but you don't have to take cheap digs at them and their fanbase just because they aren't cvlt black metal or meat and potatoes death metal.SlashAndThrash wrote:Alcest sounds like the radio band Incubus and is about as black metal as an extreme teen bible and just slightly gayer than 3 dudes fucking 4 dudes perfect for the typical 529 crowd

The two bands I praised in my post arent cvlt black metal or meat n' tates death metal either, funny thing. f you asked almost anyone at that show what alcest played, your gonna get all kinds of funny genre hybrids, all involving black metal. I heard it with my own two ears. But im not here to defend black metal, just slam easy listening bands
