That same 90% thinks they know what it takes to run a successful show. But how many of you have? No, I don't bring hundreds and hundreds of people out to Marietta to my shows. But I guarantee you one thing - those that do attend enjoy themselves and typically go on to rave about the quality of the bands vs. the price charged at the door.
Sorry Hoyt but these comments are really kind of unfair. Most people on this board used to go to Swayze's back when they had decent shows and that's OTP. There was an OTP house show the very same night as the WHW show that 90% of the board members went to. You just book for a very different scene than this board caters to. Think of it this way: most of us think the same about bands with Ren. Fair costumes and kilts and stuff as you probably do about the bands with corpsepaint, spikes, axes, bulletbelts, etc....

Plus a lot of people on this board like Ryan, Neal, Scott from In Ruins, etc, put on successful shows all the time and even more play in successful bands that attract good crowds, so it's not fair to say nobody knows how to put on a show. That said, different doesn't mean bad and both sides should give the other a try before saying they don't know what they're doing.

I was really looking forward to the Widow show but looks like I'm gonna be out of town for them again. Can't catch a break...

 wow, man. you've been at it a while. in the trenches, so to speak.

Hoyt let us play a couple pathfinder shows when we were first getting our shit together a year or two back and the crowd was always decently big the shows were super well run and all the bands were treated great.
thanks.

and for what it's worth, I have tried unsuccessfully several times since the first of this year to contact you about future shows. But I never get an answer from your email. :(

wait... but it's ok for folks to blast what I am trying to do in my staked-out region of metro Atlanta, and go on to claim that I only have 20 people in flip flops come to a 'glorified sports bar' to see shows I produce with my own money out of my own pocket, when in fact I average anywhere from 75-90 on the low end for a local lineup to nearly 200 for the Pathfinder MetalFest IV?

As you know Brian, we had people representing 13 states outside of Georgia at the PMFIV from as far away as California and Michigan. In all honesty I would have rather seen almost 200 'local' metal fans come out for that show - because the percentage who did make it out truly enjoyed themselves. But I'll take what I can get for the sake of the bands performing.

and I don't look down on any style of metal. I work with what I am comfortable with, and with what I am trying to revive in a scene that has more than a fair share of extreme metal bands.

oh, and Swayze's is about 10 miles further than The 120 Tavern so I don't see what the problem is with the distance factor for folks ITP. I personally live 35 miles west of the Masquerade but you don't see me complaining. And I'm usually there at least once a month on average.

like I said - talk to Brian, because I did not make the original post.

But since there was some doubt in a few peoples' minds as to whether or not this event is going to happen because I was asked to push it back a month, I decided to clear the air.

Rest assured no one in Marietta will miss you on Dec 8th either. :P

As I said in my original post....both sides should give the other a shot before making judgement. Take from that what you will.

yes I have. And I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish for many bands from metro Atlanta over the years. And not just bands from here, but from all over the U.S. and a few from abroad.

I've been a heavy metal fan dating back to the release of Iron Maiden's 'Number of the Beast'. Yes, I'm that old. Some folks who don't know me here probably think I'm just another kid behind this screen. But no. I'm a nearly 46 year old metal head who loves the scene and has been a supporter for much more than SIX years.

I try my best to put together great lineups - local, regional, and national - of melodic, progressive, power, and thrash metal acts that hearken back to the 'good old days' of the Headbangers Ball era of the late 80's and early 90's before grunge tried unsuccessfully to bury us all. hah hah! nice try.

I'm not trying to brainwash anyone here into liking what I put on stage. Bands come to me asking to produce a quality show for them, and that's what I do. I'm not on some glorified trip here. I've literally LOST plenty of money on these shows for various reasons - usually because of less than stellar turnouts - be it at The 7 Venue, Insomnia, Sweetwater, The Local Venue/The 120 Tavern, The Masquerade, or Club Famous on North Druid Hills (just last night, thank you very much).

It's been an uphill battle for certain. But I've enjoyed it enough to keep doing it for a little while longer. Probably not much longer though. heh heh. This 'hobby' is wearing me out. Like I said, I'm soon to be 46 years old. And while I will still support traditional metal as long as my health will allow, I'll soon have to pass the torch over to someone else who cares as much about the traditional metal scene as I do.

is that not what I did? I invited Ryan out to the 120 on August 25th virtually free of charge.

if he wants to invite me out to whatever it is he does in the scene, I'll gladly accept. :)

Jeez, Holt, I'm pretty sure meant no one's going to miss the show. Your defensiveness is making you read things wrong now :)

it's Hoyt. and I can't tell with this bunch. Half the posts look like sarcastic replies to me.

leading off a comment with 'Eh' sounds like someone is being derisive. Like they are shrugging their shoulders, as if saying "eh, whatever".

this is the main reason I stay away from these forums.

Your arrogance is sickening, dial it down a little, steel warrior. Dont come on here talking shit and acting like you even know what 90% of us think and do. You arent the only genius that can book and run a show so dont even, based on the comments of ONE person, try to act superior to everyone, condescending and defensive. That is bull shit. Why dont you turn your steed around and find the path out of here.

D'oh, sorry dude, right before I posted that I was reading a I_LOVE_ZUCKERPENIS post by a friend whose last name is Holt so I goofed. And you just have to take most things people say here (or most places in general I guess) with a grain of salt. You've got a great thing going, so some sarcastic comments here and there shouldn't mean much, and just come with the territory.

I don't understand why promoters (not just you but even people that put on shows that post here all the time) get all defensive and start insulting people and getting all defensive. You think that will get more people to come?

Doesn't make sense to me.
