only three days until RAVEN plays their first ever show in Atlanta! :D Let's not allow them to make it their last! Please join us on Saturday Nov 10th and welcome RAVEN to Atlanta in true metal style! \m/

here's the lineup:

4:30PM - doors open
5PM - FIAKRA
6PM - Burning Shadows
7PM - A Sound of Thunder (special guest during their set - don't miss it!)
8PM - Brazen Angel
9PM - Mnemosyne
10PM - RAVEN

please get there early to catch ALL the great metal! $20 at the door, and well worth it. Each support act gets 40 minutes on stage - enough time to win over some fans and leave you hungry for more. Raven gets an hour+ on stage, depending on the amount of fans we can muster. Every dollar goes to the bands (after the balance of the venue rental is met), so come on out and support some great metal acts!

when the stage is cleared we'll have an after party where you'll get to hang with ALL of the bands for a couple hours. 8)

Raven's cover medley was actually pretty cool. I mean, Genocide? You'll probably never hear Priest play that one again.

Had to leave during Raven's set. Missed their cover medley. They were ok. Mnemosyne and Brazen Angel were both awful and frankly embarrassing to watch. A Sound of Thunder wasn't terrible and has potential but the vocals, although fine in their own right, don't work w/ the music. A few cool riffs though. Favorite part of the night was seeing the show teasers Hoyt is working on for the next few months, notably Artillery, Onslaught, Manticora, and one other 'classic' band I can't remember for the life of me...

Did anyone show up for the whole festival? Doors opened at 4:30 or something right? I couldn't imagine sitting through bands as bad as Brazen Angel for four hours before Raven. I'm glad Raven had the energy they did. They made the night worthwhile.

Note to singer of A Sound of Thunder: I wouldn't tell everyone who doesn't like mosh pits to get the fuck out if there hasn't been a mosh pit for your entire set.

Raven was cool, though I liked them better when they were playing songs rather than solo guitar performance, solo bass performance, crowd sing-alongs, etc.

Maybe Mnemosyne should play with a click track.

ATTACKER, which is the only one confirmed so far besides SEVEN KINGDOMS. The others are just some tours that have contacted me or vice versa. I'm trying to direct those into the Masquerade or the 529. They wouldn't fit too well in 'glorified sports bar' in Marietta I'm afraid. ;)

Thanks to anyone and everyone from these forums who was able to come out last night and at least gave RAVEN your attention - whether or not you saw or liked any of the other bands on the bill, who I think all gave great performances, especially FIAKRA from New Jersey, BURNING SHADOWS from Maryland, and A SOUND OF THUNDER, also from the Baltimore/DC region.

RAVEN told me backstage after their performance that they LOVED the crowd (what there was of it) and would love to return. So that goes out to you all here because I know you reciprocated the energy they unleashed.

Thank You.

Awesome. Won't miss Attacker, looking forward to it. 529 would be better for Artillery and Onslaught than the Masq.

My take.

Missed the first couple of bands, arriving around 8:00.

A Sound of Thunder has a great freakin' singer. She has an immensely powerful voice and they had some good riffs. The style, though, is not really my thing.

Brazen Angel turned me off with their Southern Nationalism. I am a Yankee. Plus, their style is not my thing.

Mnemosyne is not really my thing. Their guitarist is obviously very talented and they had sort of DRI/Suicidal groove going at times. They had some really good riffs, but then they would wander off into territory that didn't really seem to gel with the thrash riffs.

Raven. Kicked. Ass. For guys that have been making metal since 1974, they had just a ton of energy. Mark Gallagher is still insane, even after all of these years. There were tons of solos and stuff, but I think that is part of the territory, given that they play straight-up, old school heavy metal. I would hope that I have as much energy as Mark Gallagher does when I am his age.

Although it has mellowed, because he is no longer 21, John Gallagher's voice is still strong and he still has his range. Frankly, I was surprised.

You can't argue with "Take Control", "All for One", "Mind of Metal" and "Break the Chain". Those are pure fucking classics. I only wish that they would have played "Hung, Drawn and Quartered", but whatever. They also played "Rock Until You Drop", "Live at the Inferno", and "Faster than the Speed of Light." There were several other songs that I didn't recognize. And a medley with "Symptom of the Universe", "Genocide", "Wont' Get Fooled Again", "Summertime Blues" and a few others. Also, random quotes during solos. "Breadfan"? What?

Anyway, I've always sort of lumped Raven and Anvil into the same category, for no real good reason. I don't know quite how to put it, but Anvil seem to have a more pronounced entertainment slant to their show. Raven, on the other hand, just got up there and rocked.

Quote of the night: Brian, on seeing John Gallagher come on stage to sing with A Sound of Thunder -- "I've never seen anyone sing metal while wearing a fanny pack."

I thought Raven was great. Good time. Brazen Angels name on the bill was enough to keep me away until almost 10:00.
