It's about 93 proof if memory serves. That's about as high proof as I like. Much stronger that that and the alcohol overpowers any pleasant flavor. If I just wanted to get slammed and didn't care about flavor, I'd go for Everclear or something else gross like that.

A similar clear liquor that I came across recently is locally based and very, very tasty is American Whiskey. I first had it as a straight shot and then on a cube of ice. I think I paid about $25 for the bottle.

The best of the new breed of white whiskeys that I've tried is still the High West Silver. It's a bit higher at around $40 bottle.

Apparently, the kegs it's aged in are old Heaven Hill casks. In 9th grade my friends and I used to scrape up $5 for a fifth of that everyday after school. I shudder to think what it would taste like to me now that I'm down with Jeffersons, Woodfords, etc...
I've been curious about that stuff. Might have to give it a go. I've had a couple New Holland brews here lately. Ichabod pumpkin ale and the Poet stout. Both were pretty tasty.

I've been on a serious stout kick lately.

Duck Rabbit Milk Stout
The Poet
Left Hand Milk Stout
Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout
and a few more I can't remember for some reason... (dead brain cells)

Faveorite of these is still the Left Hand, but all of the above were decent.

Incidentally, has anyone tried the Left Hand Nitro? If so, what's the difference between that and the regular milk stout?

Creamier mouthfeel. More muted flavors. It's good but I prefer the original.

need beer now. Been in hell for the last 3 weeks (initial flight screening)...flying is cool but holy crap we learn in 3 weeks what someone in a civilian flight school would learn in 2-3 months or something. Talk about stress!

Had a Fat Tire last Friday, that was nice. I've had it before but it's been awhile.

That is very nice stuff. I'd like to get a growler of that, but it's probably too late in the year. Shame..

I would agree with this and add that it's my understanding that the Nitro is an attempt at replicating what it's like on tap. I really only like that beer on tap. I have yet to try the Nitro.

I had a half growler of Smuttynose Old Brown Dog. It's a nice, simple brown ale. I had one beer 8 days after buying it and the second two nights later. Both were still pleasantly carbonated.

I'm still just getting a feel for all the different styles of beer by going to Publix/kroger/whole foods and getting the 10$ custom six pack - I usually just pick stuff at random.

Recently, I've had Hop Czar and HopDevil ale, which are both IPAs. Well, now I know that I hate IPAS (and Pale Ales in general, though for some reason Belgian pale ales are pretty good).

Umm, I tried that Magic Hat: Elder Betty brew a while ago and loved it, and when I looked it up online, beeradvocate.com told me it was a Hefeweizen. But after trying UFO Hefeweizen and another whose name escapes me, I've come to two conclusions: 1) Magic Hat: Elder Betty is just an American fruity wheat beer; 2) I really don't like Hefeweizens.

I've also found that I'm not a fan of American Amber/Red Ales and pretty much all lagers.

What I do like:
1) some Belgian whites -- honestly, just Shock Top and Blue Moon. I know, I suck.
2) Red Brick Brown Ale -- gotta try more brown ales soon
3) Leffe blonde -- a Belgian pale ale. I think the Belgian pale ales use more mild hops or something.

IPAs are kinda hard to get into and start with but I love them now. Hop Czar is decent and that Hop Devil might have been old. Check the dates on your IPAs (some don't have dates though) because hops fade and it could be really old (3+ months = not good) and could taste like shit. But some people just don't like IPAs.

Kroger and Publix don't really have the best selection. It's decent but I'd say go to Total Wine or a better store (you're in Atlanta so you have access to Hop City, Green's, Ale Yeah, and a bunch more) and look up reviews before you just pick random shit. You might have a better chance of getting something good.

I like some beers with bad reviews and hate some beers with good reviews but at least you'll have a general idea ahead of time.

I tend to agree that IPAs are something you either like or you don't. Something about how insanely bitter they are, perhaps? I don't know. But there are some that I really don't like. (New Belgium's Ranger IPA for instance. Also, Red Hook LongHammers used to be one of my favorite Go-to brews, but at some point it seemed like they changed the recipe and I haven't enjoyed them since) That said, IPAs in general are still my favorite. Ruination reigns supreme. Hopsecutioner, Sierra Nevada Torpedos, 21st Amendment Hop Crisis and BFoD...WOOT!

Oh, and back on stouts for a sec, if you get a chance to try the Magic Hat, Heart of Darkness, DO IT!!! So freaking delicious.

I just grabbed a sixer of the Founder's Centennial IPA. I'm finnicky about IPAs, but I love that one. Grapefruity wonderfulness.

I also picked up a four pack of Founder's Breakfast Stout and a four pack of Crabbies Alcoholic Ginger Beer. I haven't tried the Crabbies yet, but was compelled to buy it thanks to all the advertising they do on EPL football.

I had the Sam Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale, recently. If I wanted beer to taste like miso, I'd order miso soup.

Currently having a Monday Night Eyepatch IPA. Says it's local. Weakest IPA I've ever tasted. Alcohol content is fine. It's oddly sour.

thanks for the help again man!

here are some more beers I've tried recently.

Sawtooth ale – this is a surprisingly tasty pale ale.

Shiner Bock – this actually tasted more like a carbonated soda than a beer. (it even gave me a stomachache)

Highland Oatmeal Porter – I think this is what dark beers taste like, yeah? Surprisingly not as bad as I would've imagined. Pretty good actually!

Blanche – pretty damn good Belgian white!

Urquell Czech Pilsner – pretty good for a lager

Affligem – decent...

Magic Hat: Hex Ourtoberfest – This tasted like an ordinary Pale Ale to me but beeradvocate.com calls it an American Amber/Red Ale, a style which I'm not very fond of. Either way it's not too bad.

St. Cloud Belgian white -- meh, just kinda goes through you, and not even tasty like whites should be.

Sweetwater Festive Ale -- never fails to deliver this time of year

Hollandia lager -- adequate all-purpose beer, mild skunkiness, goes down smooooth. A gentleman's Becks.

Fox Barrel pear cider -- I dunno, got it for the old lady. She passed out watching Gossip Girl, so that was good. I got to play Tecmo Bowl.
