Tinnitus.

Literally. Probalby should have worn ear plugs at Mass Destruction.

No McGovney and DePena, but I'll settle for Samael - Ceremony of Opposites, and Pestilence - Testimony of the Ancients

been putting this on here and there for a few weeks... I hear why they thought the snare sounded cool; during the fast eighth note backside beats the snare sounds really mean. in track seven you can hear it especially well during the drum breaks.

https://youtu.be/dlRL_8oMUg8?t=394

track eight also has this really cool sounding digitech-whammy/octave thing going in the pre-chorus that no one ever talks about. I found one live of this track but was disappointed to find that kurt didn't replicate the effect on stage.

in conclusion, my year-end ruling for the 15th annum of this recording is this: every song offered has more cool parts than bad. track four could be a motorhead song. tracks one and two make numerous allusions to the apt predecessor "damage inc," viz. the verse riff and the no regrets lyric. the retrospective for this album is pretty interesting, too: I remember it not being terribly coldly received upon release, but then again my HM repertoire in 2003 only consisted of old metallica, some megadeth, and judas priest, so my perspective is not ultimate. however, even looking at the critical reviews from that point, I'd say the scale pointed more towards favorable, but not without caveats. somewhere along the way, favorability disappeared. what caused that? I contend it could not have been the album itself. was it a few loud voices who, among many quiet ones, were decrying the production and repetition? or was it spurred by the release of the documentary a year later, uncovering ugly and embarrassing truths within the band's ranks? whatever the reason, only time will tell how we'll view this record in another 15 years.

post scriptum on the production: out of all metallica records from beginning until 2018 this record is easily the biggest/cleanest sounding. only the first disc of garage inc. comes close.

Nice!

Such an underrated band. My favorite is "From this Day Forward".

Horrendous - Idol

I'll be honest I didn't pay this band any mind until Damian was hired to master our record. I also hate widdly bass players like the one on that record. Holy shit though the record grew on me fast. I bought it and have jammed it probably 12 times.
