Re: Yesteryear
You're not going to find any photos from the Metroplex, but this is the next best thing. This is Dark Angel's setlist from the last show I saw there (May 1989), handed to me by Mike Gonzalez after all 50 or so of us dudes who showed up perished in flames. Also included a flyer from their show a few months later in Austin, opening for Overkill. Gonzalez kicked me square in the forehead during that one.
Re: Yesteryear
Next best thing and very cool. And am I remembering correctly, didn't you live in Brno for a while in the 90's? Photos from any shows there?

Re: Yesteryear
Not many shows in Brno back then (Therion and Krabathor were the only two), but I did see Root in Prague once.

Re: Yesteryear
I didn't want to hijack the thread with personal anecdotes, but I can't seem to send PMs. I lived in Vienna, Prague and Brno in the early to mid-nineties. Back when my life was interesting... I saw a lot of shows in Vienna (mostly at the now-defunct Rockhaus, which was a lot like the Masquerade) and Prague, but very few in Brno, because the local venues at that time were awful. I remember seeing Krabathor (cool guys) there, as well as Therion, back when they still played death metal. There were maybe 30 people at that Therion show.
Shows in the Czech Republic back then were highly dependent on the local promoter. Bands would play out-of-the-way places if promoters could secure a decent venue and put a show together, so I saw Cannibal Corpse/Desultory/Samael at a hockey rink in the metropolis of Uherske Hradiste, which is 4 hours from Prague and close to nothing. Why there? It's Krabathor's home town, and they put the show on. Also saw Skyclad , Tiamat, Sentenced (Amok tour) and Bolt Thrower (with Van Drunen) in Plzen, etc. Probably the best show I was in Prague was My Dying Bride and Anathema with Root opening. This was a couple or days before or after they filmed that video in Poland.

Re: Yesteryear
touring-level heavy metal bands playing odd venues is something that I wish I had experienced... I guess since the rise in popularity of the internet it's just too easy to book legitimate music venues. but shit like youth centers, school gymnasiums, rockabilly bars, shopping malls, etc. is something that just doesn't happen any more.

Re: Yesteryear
definitely. this is just 4 really close friends using this board as a private forum, even though it's public. we all sit around retelling funny stories and killer show war tales all the time.MS_39455 wrote: ↑Mon August 3rd, 2020, 6:07 pmSame! Godbee was standing in a red spotlight for the entire set and I didn't know how to compensate for it at the time.
