I think this is up to the bands actually. I was talking to one of the security dudes and that's what I got from him. Most bands don't like when people do that apparently but bands who are more hardcore or punk don't mind it for the most part.
A few years ago when there was a different manager there it was like that.

For the past two or so years, minus the past few shows ive been to there, thats not the case at all. Ive seen bands yelling for more stage dives and security is throwing kids around, putting them in headlocks, punching, and kicking them out for diving.

I understand that not everyone is an experienced dive connoisseur such as myself, but in the 10+ years ive been going hardcore and metal shows Ive never seen anyone get seriously injured from it. I know it has/does happen but it really is so rare that its not a serious concern. Ive seen more people get hurt from moshing than diving.

Not to go off topic away about the stage diving, but...

is it just me? or did some of the techno people from upstairs managed to sneak into Hell?

Dude yeah! They were really fucked up on something, one of the chicks wouldn't let go of my hair up front during DRI so I shoved her into the pit.

I thought I saw two chicks making out and rolling around on the floor until security broke them up. Or maybe they were fighting. I'm not sure. They were definitely high.

@TheKshatriya - hmmm I wonder if it also has to do with the density of the crowd too. If there's like 20 people in the audience, there's no way in hell I would stage dive but if there's a few hundred and they're packed in pretty tight, ok then I'll do it! And as far as moshing goes, I think you're right! I've seen & heard about some nasty injuries. Once even I left one limping for several days after! But I was drunk too so it could have been avoided lol

I've definitely broken my nose multiple times in the pit. As long as you dive where people are and not out into the pit or open space you'll be fine. I, too, am glad the masquerade seems to be more tolerant of dives lately... now if only that stupid barrier wasn't there.

ya know, I think I might have broke mine in the septum area when I was drunk in the pit for Impaled Nazarene at MDF. This was 2 weeks ago and I still feel it...now I have to press on it to feel it though. I was able to move it a little too. I don't think it fully broke though. I'm sure it got bruised up on the inside pretty bad, same for my gums...I got hit in the upper lip and it hit my gums and nose. I still can't blow my nose properly...it's all sloppy and snot gets everywhere.

All I know is I'm glad my teeth didn't get knocked out! They hurt for almost a week after this and I was afraid I was gonna wind up with missing front teeth. hahahaha no more going into the pit drunk for me! We'll see if I stay out when I'm drunk next time

I've managed not to lose any teeth so far but that's probably only because I'm tall. Every time I break mine it's right up between my eyes where my glasses rest. Lots of blood and it feels all weird for a couple weeks and turns black n blue under my eyes but that's it. After the last time I was holding my daughter and she full on headbutted me. Direct hit. Ouch.

apparently I did the same thing to my grandma when I was 2 or 3 (it was an accident). I don't remember it though.

also I accidentally broke some dude's nose at a Morbid Angel show 5 years back. I was headbanging in the back of the pit. A mosher got knocked onto me at full speed, I flew backwards and the back of my head slammed into this poor dude's nose. I was fine. I turned around and there was blood everywhere! I was like I'm so sorry! and he said it's ok it's fuckin MORBID ANGEL! as he gave me the horns. hahaha yeah, that was before they became gay
