8 ways to be socially ostracized at a show

Well I don't mind crowdsurfers because sometimes it can be pretty fun. I think it brings a different kind of energy to the show. I'm usually at shows that tell you that you can't even stage dive *cough Masquerade*. I agree though sometimes it is really annoying. I really can't stand it when there isn't even that much of a crowd and someone decides they have to crowd surfer and ends up falling on their ass while knocking several people in the head.

One thing that can help if you're watching the show and there's a chance there could be crowd-surfers working their way up from the back: watch the downstage security guys.
When you see them start looking at (or behind) you, Get Ready: you're about to get beaned in the head.
Having had my glasses broken at a show once, I've learned my lesson, and never wear them into any show where crowd-surfing is likely and I plan to be near the front.
(Although my glasses were smashed by a crowd-surfer at a Dream Theater show in 1993 -- go figure.)

unfortunately for me i cant see shit without my glasses so if i actually want to see the band thats playing i have to stand in the back/to the side if i dont want to risk it, which sucks pretty hard.
And you can def tell if someones coming by the security guys, but even knowing someones about to fall on your head doesnt keep them from knocking your glasses off in the process.
I have definitely stage dived at masq more than once and never had a problem. Front flips off the stage in hell used to be my jam but that was in the "pre-barrier" days. Im a pretty big guy so i dont do it so much anymore, less because im worried about being caught than just being some big lumbering jackass on stage and running into band members in my drunken stupor haha.

agreed. Yeah that's why I only do it in dense crowds...if there's no crowd, that's just retarded and you're going to piss people off. I think there are certain bands who talk to security beforehand so that stage diving is allowed...one show I was at it was going on all night and no one got thrown out.Generubin wrote:Well I don't mind crowdsurfers because sometimes it can be pretty fun. @spew- I guess you'll always be pissed then since you have to worry about your glasses. Have you ever thought about contacts or are those just as worrisome (in terms of losing them)? (sorry if I sound ignorant, obviously I wear neither)

They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???
my vision is too shitty for contacts... maybe thats changed in recent years but i couldnt get them before because my eyesight is so bad. when i take off my glasses to play im almost literally playing blind... i might as well have my eyes closed the whole time.

Dude, if/when you can afford it, go for it. A friend of mine had it done a few years ago and he was ecstatic with the results.Spewtilator wrote:yeah i want lasik really bad but i just dont have the money. not sure if its something my insurance would cover.... i'll have to look into it

yes definitely! I know 2 people who had it and it definitely works! One of them was legally blind, and now he can see probably better than me.Strange wrote:Dude, if/when you can afford it, go for it. And then you wouldn't get pissed at us crowdsurfers anymore lol

I had lasik surgery two years ago. More than likely insurance won't cover shit but most places have financing options. My procedure cost $3800. One reason I had it done was I was always fucking up my glasses at shows, but of course since my procedure I realized I'm out of shape and clumsy and should just stay out of the pit.
