True. It is a rare occurrence of having a great punk show like Crass performance and The Casualties.
Masq = Big bands that might skip atlanta if it didn't exist for generally overpriced admission and severely over priced alcohol in a shitty atmosphere with generally shitty sound and no re-entry.
585 = Small to large bands that might skip atlanta if it hadn't existed for extremely reasonable admission (or free if you couldn't afford it), byob and drugs, in the perfect atmosphere with generally shitty sound and infinite re-entry.
As to cars getting broken into... welcome to atlanta. I've heard of 10x more vehicles getting broken into at masq than ever at 585 (i actually don't remember anyone's car ever getting broken into there)
For bands, the masq offers the opportunity to open for national acts which is awesome though it comes with some annoying red tape like selling tickets and while i agree 100% that it's the band's responsibility to promote the shows they play there is little to no incentive for people to buy tickets in advance to a show that is in no danger of selling out and that they may or may not attend because the venue is not somewhere they like to go.
I'd also say if you're boohooing about there not being more than 5 shows a month at 585 (which there definitely were in the heavy touring months) then I'd ask you to name me at least 5 shows a month at the masq you want to attend, much less can afford. People seem to forget that we didn't get shit for good DIY metal/grind/punk bands coming through atlanta before 585 existed and now, because of it, atlanta actually has a decent reputation when it comes to DIY tours and bands actually WANT to come play here because of the good things the touring bands that came through 585 had to say.
Then again my opinion may be biased because i think the vast majority of bands that play the masq are fucking terrible.

I dont think it could be put any better. But the thing now is that we basically have no DIY spot for touring bands to play. We have been struggling to keep one open since 585 shut down.Ryan wrote:Masq = Big bands that might skip atlanta if it didn't exist for generally overpriced admission and severely over priced alcohol in a shitty atmosphere with generally shitty sound and no re-entry.

Yep, it is an unfortunate situation. If you can't get your show booked at wonderroot then it being all ages is pretty much out of the question, archive is a joke and not worth booking, and the rest of the venues are 18+ at best. i wish someone would step up and get something new going that is actually legit. i know chris from 585 has been talking to a dude that has a space where shows could happen but that's still in the works... and as glad as I am that chris ran 585 and is trying to get something new going i find it pretty sad that it took someone moving here from another state to actually get a good DIY venue going in atlanta.
