Jimmy Johnson first year as the Cowboys head coach 1-15. Wow seems like Jones would have handed Jimmy his walking papers after that embarrassing season.BlazeTSU wrote:now if we can just get Rich McKay and Bobby Petrino arrested for something maybe we can start winning football games again.
Its time to clean house and I think Petrino is the man to do it. Petrino turned the Louisville football program around when he was there and I think he can and will do the same for the falcons.
I don't think Vick will sever the whole 2 years maybe a year and a half at most but that all depends on his behavior.

well, the problem with Petrino is that he has made poor decisions both in his playcalling and his line-ups.
Petrino has seemingly no inkling on how the NFL game works. you can't win football games in the NFL throwing the ball on almost every down with a roster full of backup QB's. he has solid RB's just rotting on his roster watching no less than 4 games this season get away from us due to poor playcalling and bad clock management.
if bad players were our only setback it would be one thing but when our coach doesn't show any adaptability then we have major problems.

I actually like Petrino, and I think his play calling is hindered by our lack of an offensive line. The quarterback carousel is ridiculous, but at this point in the season, why not give every QB on the roster a shot? I think we'll probably end up drafting Brian Brohm from Louisville in next year's draft, which will hopefully give us some kind of consistency at that position. We need to go out an get an offensive line that can protect whoever is taking snaps next year, however. It's pretty hard to move the ball when the quarterback is on his back 90% of the time. Hopefully Finneran can stay healthy next year at the wide reciever spot, so that'll give us two professional-quality receivers (Roddy White being the other, obviously). Maybe Laurent Robinson will break out as well, and maybe Alge Crumpler will start giving a rat's ass again. I think we're pretty good defensively for the most part, but the pass defense the past two weeks has been B-A-D. When there's a receiver open on every play, it's kind of hard for Abraham or Anderson to get sacks. So we should probably go out and sign another corner, assuming that Hall can start playing well on a regular basis.
All that said, getting rid of yet another coaching staff is not the way to go. It's very rare that a coach can come in and be successful in their first year. So I say we stick with Petrino, and see what happens.

Petrino took the job with the assumption that Vick was his starting guy. This was going to be the season that Vick was to be given enough rope to either prove himself or hang himself. Given what Petrino had to work with this year it shouldn't be the deciding factor of his NFL career.
The falcons didn't really have the money to make any big moves in the off season (Vick really screwed them on this pretty good) so you can't really fault him on that one.
I honestly have to say I agree with you can't win games in the NFL by passing on every down. I do however like to watch the Warriors do a pretty damn good job of running the Run and Shoot under June Jones the old Atlanta falcons coach before Reeves.
I think the problem with getting the running game going is the O line(the injury's to the O line doesn't help much either). The Falcons started a new blocking scheme this year that has greatly improved the passing game (you can't really argue against that fact if you look at the numbers). I know there was a big argument last year that the falcons had no passing game so we went from one extreme to the other. I would like to see them draft a really good runner this year.
Personally I don't care for Dunn at all, never really have. I do however believe the best running offense the Falcons had was when Vick was the QB in the inverted wishbone or full house. Still I think the Falcons need a up the middle type of runner.
Like I said before granted Petrino was dealt a shitty hand to work with and a few mistakes along the way its' no reason to jump ship prematurely.
There are a lot of coaches that have been given a huge task to turn around a team. Dan Reeves took the Falcons from being a 3-13 team to 14-2 but it took 2 years to do it.
I don't think Petrino is the best coach evah but I do think he is better than Mora Jr.

Crumpler can fucking kick rocks for all I care. Maybe Alge, instead of criticizing the coach you could umm..... maybe ..... I don't know catch a fucking football.
I think we still need a safety on D someone like Kenny Phillips or a better middle line backer like Colin McCarthy

What the hell do we do now? WHAT THE HELL DO WE DO NOW?
Interim head coach Mike Zimmer or maybe Hue Jackson
I bet Paul Petrino feels like he has been put in an awkward position
Lou Holtz coached the New York Jets for 13 games in 1976. He went 3-10, then left the team with one game remaining to become Arkansas' coach
I guess the only thing I have to look forward to is Robert Marve leading the Canes to another National title. Hey the kid broke Tim Tebow's state record.

wow, i like Petrino even less now. eventhough i wanted him out i didn't want him out NOW! we still have ballgames to play and this team has been through enough in the last year.
well, if he resigned then he forfeited his contract and we can go after an NFL coach now and actually have some money to offer...........like Bill Cower or Denny Green. both of those guys are the kinds of coaches that we need here in atlanta to succeed. hard asses that don't take shit off of anybody and would get the team playing hard for a full 60 minutes.
as for a few things you mentioned DEATH2ALL,
Vick would've been better than what we ended up with......potentially. this passing offense very well could've eaten him alive.
the passing game got better b/c Vick is no longer the QB. likewise, the running game got worse.
and we have very capable guys at both QB and RB. Shockley can step in and be very good and work out well for not only the team but also the fans here in atlanta. Jerious Norwood is an absolute stud. he just needs to be given the ball........perhaps behind a decent FB.
we had money to throw around, we just threw it at the wrong people. you can't make an unproven QB the highest paid in history. you can't sign unproven FB's to multi-million dollar deals. you can't sign kickers that can't make 26 yd FG's. and you damn sure can't give Byron Leftwich 7 million. we should've dug out someone like Jake Plummer and paid him two million and had a legitimate NFL starting QB.
McKay is the biggest problem we have. hopefully he resigns tomorrow.
