Windows XP install disk?

I know this is probably not so kosher to post here, but I'm getting desperate. My good machine (Pentium 4 as opposed to my "bad" one, a pentium II) broke down a few months ago, and since then I have not been able to do anything with video, as the "bad" computer's processor is too slow for DV editing/burning. I had to give up a major paid project I was doing for a doctor due to this. There were also some other video projects I was working on that had to be ditched.

I had thought I'd lost all the data, that the hard drive crashed, but I recently discovered that the hard drive is still good, but the Windows install is not, and a "repair" didn't work. I did have a copy of XP Professional I got from a former co-worker but lo and behold it's a bad CD and won't copy the needed dlls.

So if anyone's got one I can borrow to get that computer back up, I'll pay for postage or whatever. I'll also dance at your wedding or funeral or whatever if I can get my good computer up again. I'll even throw in some metal DVDs if ya want. 8)

I bet if you have (or can borrow) an external enclosure for your hard drive, and hook it up to another computer or a laptop, you could recover your stuff.

Yeah I can get the stuff, I hooked it up to my crappy old computer. The problem being not enough space on that one to put anything. I have another 20gig drive but I can't figure out how to jumper it so it'll work with the one that computer boots from. It's an IBM tho, so go figure. (the others are all Western Digitals). My problem is also I'm enough of a geek that I know how to fuck up a computer really bad but not enough to know how to fix it.

Your welcome, I have numerous XP discs around too if that doesn't work, but it should.

I just had WD MyBook 500 gig take a total shit. Had to put it in the freezer and burn off as much as I could before it totally died. Not sure what brand to go with next. WD has gone down so much in the past few years.

Well dammit. Now the computer will not recognize the hard drive at all. I think maybe it's the controller hardware, because the hard drive works in the other computer, and i also tried using different cables, but no go. It also wont' recognize the DVD drive or the CD Rom drive. I doubt this is anything that I could fix... dunno if anyone but the manufacturer could and its wayyy out of warranty. So I reckon the whole thing is going to have to be scrapped.
