Testament rules too

But Maiden in my opinion is the greatest band ever. Killem All is the only Metallical Album I really like. There are some songs on Lightning that I like a lot too, like Creeping Death.

I think Master of Puppets is overrated. I personally enjoy Ride the Lightning much better. Kill Em All is also good. And I really like ...And Justice For All. If only it didn't have that weird ass production it'd be amazing.

And Neal, I was not aware you are a big fan of Iron Maiden.

And Maiden made 6 albums in the 80's, not 7. Live albums don't count.
Of those six at least two are mediocre.
Killers and Somewhere in Time are pretty lame.

Also, i think 70's Priest is better than anything they did in the 80's.
Screaming for Vengeance is decent. British Steel is too cheesy for me to enjoy. And the rest just suck.
Sad Wings of Destiny, Killing Machine, and Stained Class are where it's at.

I think based purely on who I like rather than what they meant to the scene etc. etc. Voivod is my favorite 80's metal band - everything after their first album anyway.

Killing Technology, Nothingface, and Dimension Hatross are all incredible albums.

Yeah....like kinda 'forgetting' to put Jason's bass in the mix.

I wonder what that album would sound like now, if it were re-recorded properly? I mean, if Dimmu can do it with Stormblast and Nevermore can do it with Enemies Of Reality.....

Enemies of Reality was re-mixed, not re-recorded I thought.
I think if Metallica tried to re-record it, it would sound horrible.

 Metallica is going on tour again...they don't have any dates for the states yet. I just wish I was able to see them back in the 80s!
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

Coroner, Forbidden, Possessed, Dark Angel, Death Angel, Exhorder, Sanctuary, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Motorhead, Vio-lence, Sodom, Venom, Annihilator, Exodus, Metal Church, Nuclear Assault, Voivod, Rigor Mortis, Helloween, Celtic Frost, Powermad, Agent Steel, Forced Entry, on and on.

I can't pick just one... I think they all brought something interesting to metal.
i should of added motorhead, but if you read my bulletin you would of noticed that i purposely didnt add the more Aggressive bands, and left it to basically Traditional Heavy Metal. No Thrash, No Death Metal. READ READ READ!!!!

The whole point of metal has always been that it's all "aggressive". Black Sabbath was aggressive as was Iron Maiden back in their time. Fucking AC/DC was considered aggressive in the late 70s and early 80s. I mean, if you walked into school with a shirt like this Image or this Image then you were the shit. AntiChristian/DevilsChild. can my point be anymore clear?

and how is Motorhead more aggressive than metallica or megadeth? actually I interviewed Lemmy during Ozzy's retirement tour in '92 and he busted me for calling Motorhead "metal" - it's rock & roll chaps!

good thread!

The official and correct reason of the name is that the Young brother's sister read the letters "AC/DC" from her mother's sewing machine. AC and DC are both electrical symbols meaning "Alternating Current" and "Direct Current". And sice the band was (and still is) a band that uses electric guitars and plays loud, volumous, rock'n'roll, those symbols fitted the band very well.

So when you say "really", I guess that you refer to the rumors that the letter's true meaning is "After Christ the Devil Comes", "Anti Christ / Devil's Children" etc etc etc.

It is almost always religious groups that puts out those rumors, because then they have a reason to hate them. Especially in the 70's and 80's when that kind of music was considered "heavy", "noisy" and "unethical". The band has no Satanic worship, I doubt very strongly that they worship anything at all, except their fans and their musical professions.

I cannot see how people can accuse AC/DC of being satanic. They never wear satanic or religious symbols, they don't explicitly wear black clothes, they don't sing about the devil, they don't execute satanic rituals.
Feel free to read the song lyrics, and you will find that AC/DC sings about girls, alcolhol, rock'n'roll, love and adventures. No deeper than that.

AC/DC is a pure rock'n'roll band living and breathing for their music and fans. They are not satanic believers, and the name AC/DC does not mean anything satanic.

All that other crap is urban legend. Just like Ozzy tearing apart that chicken at Farm aid.

High Voltage Rock and Roll!!!!

hence why ac/dc wasnt on the list, they are rock n roll not heavy metal. just like van halen, etc.

They influenced alot of people Matt. I don't think they influenced Corpsegrind Rottenspleen but they did influence a great deal of heavy artists.

ACDC - "Hell's Bells"
I'm a rolling thunder, a pouring rain
I'm comin' on like a hurricane
My lightning's flashing across the sky
You're only young but you're gonna die

I won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lives
Nobody's putting up a fight
I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell
I'm gonna get you, Satan get you

CHORUS:
Hell's Bells
Yeah, Hell's Bells
You got me ringing Hell's Bells
My temperature's high, Hell's Bells

I'll give you black sensations up and down your spine
If you're into evil you're a friend of mine
See my white light flashing as I split the night
'Cause if good's on the left, then I'm stickin' to the right

I won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lives
Nobody's puttin' up a fight
I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell
I'm gonna get you, Satan get you

CHORUS
yeow
Hell's Bells, Satan's comin' to you
Hell's Bells, he's ringing them now
Hell's Bells, the temperature's high
Hell's Bells, across the sky
Hell's Bells, they're takin' you down
Hell's Bells, they're draggin' you around
Hell's Bells, gonna split the night
Hell's Bells, there's no way to fight, yeah

Ow, ow, ow, ow

Hell's Bells

Anti-Christ Devil Children it is!!
