It's a dual-clutch, 'pedal-less' manual system that uses paddles around the steering wheel instead of the stick we're used to.andyb wrote:havent seen the dsg yet, what the hell is that, i got the tiptronic shit on mine, seems a little like a scam, but at least you can control some rpms instead of waiting on the engine drag to kick it down a gear.
Google it, it's pretty interesting.
They borrowed the idea from systems that companies like Ferrari have been using for years, and started it with the Passats & then put it in the MKV Jettas & GTIs.
I have driven an older modle GTI. They are pretty fun to drive both the Jetta and GTI.
holly's right alot of new cars are doing this. Acura TL has the same thing and the new Celica GT-S have them also.holly
& it's not an automatic; it's DSG.
The company were the first ones to introduce it into affordable cars (ie not Ferraris or something) and started doing this on Audis not too long ago; they started doing it on the dubs for this generation.

VWs really are just fun to drive all around.Death2all wrote:I have driven an older modle GTI. They are pretty fun to drive both the Jetta and GTI.

I've driven a MkIII Jetta (1996, I think) & our old MkIV GTI (a 2000).
Of course the 2000 rode nicer, but they are all great.
My mom drove a Fox when I was little; that's kinda how my whole VW nerd-ity began...
I didn't realize there were non-European companies doing this in the states.
I honestly don't keep up with or know very much about Asian cars, unless it's my mom's Sequoia.
Hahaha.
Is it DSG?
If not, how do the systems that they use work?

Pretty nice, I've got me an '03 GTI VR6 with a GIAC Chip to remove the top speed governer, raise the rev limiter, and add about 10 - 15 hp's. I also dropped an EIPtuning cold air intake into it. She puts out about 215 - 220 hp's.
Good choice with the GTI though, I went and test drove a DSG myself. I like the padel shifts, that shit is pretty sick.

We'll be at about 252hp when we get the chip in, but we apparently have to wait for a computer update from VW before we can take him in to get chipped.ATLmetal.com wrote:Pretty nice, I've got me an '03 GTI VR6 with a GIAC Chip to remove the top speed governer, raise the rev limiter, and add about 10 - 15 hp's. Nice! Yeah I would guess they havent put out the new software yet being that the car is so new. Well worth the wait though!holly wrote:We'll be at about 252hp when we get the chip in, but we apparently have to wait for a computer update from VW before we can take him in to get chipped.ATLmetal.com wrote:Pretty nice, I've got me an '03 GTI VR6 with a GIAC Chip to remove the top speed governer, raise the rev limiter, and add about 10 - 15 hp's. Yeah, we just heard about it, so we gotta take it in to the VW dealer to have the computer updated.ATLmetal.com wrote:Nice! Otherwise, we would be wasting the money on the chip, since the update wipes the computer and replaces everything with the new information.
Rarr.
We were supposed to chip it when I was there for Spring Break, and now we have to wait, so I'm bummed I won't get to take it to the track to show off for a while.
I just got done driving a new Lincoln LS that shit is pretty fucking dope. It has a nice 4.6L V8 it?s sporty and luxuries not bad for an American made car. It even handles pretty damn well at rather fast speeds. It?s no VW but it?s also fun to drive. I personally don?t really care much for a lot of American made cars but this one isn?t that bad. Unfortunately it?s rather pricey too.
