What wars have we lost?

What city imploded?

Our economy is doing well and growing.

9/11 can be blamed on a lot of people, mostly terrorists and several recent administrations.

The FairTax will solve many economic problems like businesses going overseas, and folks might actually wake up to the amount of money the government takes before you even see it.

No shit the government doesn't have our best interest at heart. No one does but yourself and your mother.

WREKage is awesome.

Authority is derived through the submission of will. Within this statement we can observe the machinations of every top-down management/heirarchical system. To deceive oneself into believing that any authoritarian, pyramidical-structured institution is in keeping with the best intentions other than the intentions of self is pure, unbridled naivety. Our leaders are either pathologically incompetent or insane; though either conclusion is completely irrelevent. This is speaking of both corporate and political leadership, by the way. We have erected a system of unbridled power, that, within its very nature, consumes wholeheartedly and without prior precedent.

The whimsical dream of a system-enacted Utopia only ensures that we have placed individual minds with massive defecits for altruism in positions that reward some of the most depraved of human behaviours. The idea of a righteous-cause in the political sense has left us with a quite a rift in what could be thought of as moral objectivity, in that, as "the system" is currently working and maneuvering, we have nothing other than corruption in its most vulgar display.

Power over externalised objects is absolutely irrelevent in the face of power over the minds of men. Infinitite in its malleability, it is. The intoxication of this power is the corrupting force that has taken hold of both our political and corporate leaders. If you choose, and it is a choice, to go along with, and be led around by the nose, that decision is simultaneously yours, and not yours. The system is in a state of decline, and at this point only something miraculous can resurrect it; however, miracles only exist in the whimsical fancies of fiction. We are left with a situation in which we must face the daemons within, and see that with every dying breath it is being clung to.

America has been hung out to dry. This great nation has been hijacked by corporate interests, and our government is acting in a manner which doesn't SEEM, but proves that the population's general consensus is completely irrelevent, and that it will do whatever it damned well pleases. The gross misrepresentation of collective "interests" also proves that big business is the true constituency of our so-called "elected" officials. The population, when making the switch to "consumers" rather than "citizens" has since lost any validity in the eyes of the ruling party. To cede this personal responsibilty, and to scorn individual responsibility for the actions of OUR alleged representatives is a gross disgrace to the principles this Repulic was founded upon. All the great heroes of the American Revolution are toiling in their graves at the outrage and massive disgrace that has been done to the beautiful system they formed over two hundred very short years ago.

Our "Utopia" has curdled. It has gone sour.

"What wars have we lost?"
We kicked the shit out of the Krauts and the Japs in under five years. We haven't done jack shit in Iraq. And whatever happened to "catching Osama bin Laden"?

"What city imploded?"
New Orleans. Our government's reaction to a natural disaster was bordering on criminally negligent.

"Our economy is doing well and growing."
Wake up and smell the petrodollars. Hubert's peak has come and gone, and the US is looking at an economic holocaust. With no light rail system, we've effectively set ourselves in a position of automobile reliance. As prices at the pump continually rise, so does the price of goods. Real wages are falling, Pollyana. Which means you have price of goods going upward whilst wages are falling. That means less buying power. The truth is, that even the control of oil is not nearly as critical to the US as maintaining it?s continued dominance in the exchange of oil in dollars. The fact or the matter remains that any and all military actions in the Middle Eastern Theatre are related to the US gasping for breath in the hopes that the petrodollar remains the reserve currency across the globe. With the majourity of countries squabbling over the last remnants of fossil fuels, and the threat of the Euro becoming the new reserve currency, the US is fighting tooth and nail to ensure that it's economy doesn't tank. When the the dollar is abandoned as the reserve currency, the US is going to have an economic meltdown that will make Venezuela look like paradise. But, you know, the economy is doing great. Right?

"9/11 can be blamed on a lot of people, mostly terrorists and several recent administrations."
911 has been the justification this administration has used to do what it wanted to do anyway. The fact of the matter remains that THIS government is the one that failed its citizenry. 911 happened on their watch. More criminal negligence.

"The FairTax will solve many economic problems like businesses going overseas, and folks might actually wake up to the amount of money the government takes before you even see it. "
The FairTax is an absolute fantasy. Not a chance in hell.

"WREKage is awesome."
It is. But if Paul's assertion that things should be left to "people who know what they're doing, ie. Big Biz", then Clear Channel is the end-all, and WREKage is clueless.

These are all a matters of opinion or atleast thats the way I see it. I was unaware about most of this but looking out the window of the front office here at work it seems pretty calm.

Absolutely...

Post by NeuroNomicon » Wed May 31st, 2006, 3:47 pm

...the hard fact is that when it comes to:

1) Politics
2) Religion
3) Pizza Toppings

Human beings seldom agree. That being said it is a nice day for a dip in the pool. I think you've said it best.

1 - you're wrong
2 - you're wrong
3 - ham and sausage

i think nearly everyone can agree on at least the first 2.

and a brief response to your response - we haven't lost if we're still fighting.

good thing walmart, home depot, and the generosity of the average american helped the gulf coast region and new orleans. reliance on the government is always a bad idea.

i'm with death2all on his point that driving through town today i saw no signs of the apocalypse either.

you may see the fairtax as never happening but i choose to support it anyway. all the big changes in our country have come about by a small but dedicated minority. and the fairtax minority is growing by the day.

that being said, i think its a good day for a nap and metal show this evening.

Fighting an established empire and fighting an -ism are two completely different wars, not to mention that the technology gap between now and WW2 is a million times bigger than the one that occured between WW1 and WW2, so that's not a very valid comparison to make. I think everyone was expect I'm pretty much apathetic to politics in general but we do have all the pieces slowly forming into place in Iraq for them to sufficiently govern themselves within the next few years. I highly doubt that was our motive for being there in the first place, but it's a nice side effect for them nonetheless.

WMD's or no, I don't think there's a single non-brainwashed person on the planet that didn't breathing a little easier that Saddam isn't in power anymore and that pretty much his whole family who could have taken over for him is dead now.

Saddam is a turkey...

Post by NeuroNomicon » Wed May 31st, 2006, 4:44 pm

...this is no doubt. That being said, Iraq was the only government in the Middle East that was a secular one. We've allowed a rift to open up for another religious group to swoop in and fill that gap.

That being said, armageddon is lurking in the shadows. It's not here today, even an idiot could see if it was. It's like comparing the foreshadowing of a hurricane as "possible but unlikely" even when it is making a direct path for your home. Acknowledging the hurricane ex post facto is a point devoid of merit.

We sure as hell don't want the apocalypse to manifest itself, but it sure looks like conditions ripe for a World War. The real reason for the insertion into the arean of Iraq was Saddam's new push to switch over to Euros. That would have caused an economic blowback to the US through others following suit.

The Fed has upped production of M-3(Money Supply) by almost 22%. The new Fed chairman has a history, and expertise in hyper-inflation.

OPEC is more than cognisant of the dollar's decline, and as such, is taking steps to ensure its own economic well being. Iran has made it's stance official: beginning in July it will only trade oil in Euros. Venezuela has similar aspirations. It will be quite interesting to see where all this leads.

Petropolitics is the name of the game in the first quarter of the 21st century. We're only given the ability to speculate and pose conjecture concerning all of this, but the facts are there. Hyperinflation, an abandonment of the dollar as a world currency, and resource depletion do not bode well. Economic fallout leads to political maneuvering, which leads to war. The weather's fine now, but the storm's on the horizon. Iraq is just act I.

ANWR

Post by NeuroNomicon » Fri June 2nd, 2006, 7:48 am

It is a bad idea to drill there. It's too little too late. We should have completely redesigned this country's transportation base after the US Oil production peaked in 1970, but "would've, should've, could've" doesn't exactly solve any current problems.

When T. Boone Pickens and Matthew Simmons are crying that there's trouble, that's about as poignant as it can be. What we've, collectively, as a society, done, is set up a system of unbrideled waste, and sooner or later we're going to pay the price. The so-called "alternative" energy is snake oil. There's no way the American way of life can be sustained with the resource scarcity we're facing.

Personally, I love going to the mall and getting sneakers. Then driving down to Guitar Center to get an Ibanez product made half a world away. Atlantic Station is great! I love "the 3,000-mile Caesar Salad". Going to see movies is a blast. The worry, and concern, is that based on govenment and business policies over the last quarter century, those fun little whimsical adventures are looking far less likely to occur for my daughter.

Alternative energies are a joke. We're talking about a success ratio of something along the lines of 1:1. With that we've used up as much fuel in the production of the alternative as we've.

The argument is not that we're completely up the creek concerning oil, but the fact is that the era of cheap oil is over. It's done. No amount of national park drilling, switchgrass-snake-oil-growing, coal-mining is going to change the fact that Hubert's peak has come and gone.

The personal insults are very much not appreciated. I'm not assaulting your character. It's not as though I am reaching into some unknown, nebulous abyss of absurdity, and pulling this shit out of my ass.

And what's up with the racial remark, Stalindrummer?

Question irrelevent:

Post by NeuroNomicon » Fri June 2nd, 2006, 2:26 pm

What the hell did it have to do with the relevency of the topic at hand. Rather than contribute to creative construction of debate, you've essentially debased yourself into merely hurling insults. Well done!
