Egg Yolko

Post by NeuroNomicon » Fri June 2nd, 2006, 2:31 pm

No, Egg Yolko, yours truly isn't attempting suggest any all-knowing stance. That being said, the facts are evident enough concerning our government's foreign policy. Again, another great insult.

This war simply is not a war against radical Islam, though there should be a shitstorm raining down upon them. This war is simple economics.

The reality of the war is that we haven't shown any signs of securing the region for oil's pricing to go back downward. If anything, we've only proven that the world's greatest military power is wholly incapable of securing one hostile OPEC nation; how can we ensure the stability of the entire region? Impossible.

Stalling for what...

Post by NeuroNomicon » Fri June 2nd, 2006, 6:52 pm

...Stalling for what? More insults? Bring 'em on!

It's just facts, dudes. Don't be mad at me, be mad at Matthew R. Simmons, Colin J. Campbell, T. Boone Pickens, et al. You can insult them, instead, for planting these "looney tuney" ideas in my noggin'. Call up Iran, and tell them not to switch to the Euro. Tell 'em the US dollar is the way to go when it comes to reserve currency.

Sorry if our political views aren'ts something you can sympathise with.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a tinfoil hat to put on, right before I go on a date with a space alien to see the latest Michael Moore documentary. We'll raise our hybrid baby on soy milk, and make it vegan. While we're at it, we have some tankers to sink and some trees to chain ourselves to.

'til the next insult...

12-14 billion barrels is "too little"? (Source: US Geologic Survey)

All contained within 2,000 acres (about the size of a large subdivision, or a small town) in one corner of the ANWR, which contains 19 million acres? (That's, like, one ten-thousandth the area.)
--And able to be sent back to the US using an existing pipeline, Prudhoe Bay?

Do some fact-checking.
We should have completely redesigned this country's transportation base after the US Oil production peaked in 1970, but "would've, should've, could've" doesn't exactly solve any current problems.
Redesigned.....to what?
Personally, I love going to the mall and getting sneakers. Then driving down to Guitar Center to get an Ibanez product made half a world away. Atlantic Station is great! I love "the 3,000-mile Caesar Salad". Going to see movies is a blast. The worry, and concern, is that based on govenment and business policies over the last quarter century, those fun little whimsical adventures are looking far less likely to occur for my daughter.
You said it was a resoirce shortage, and it's nowhere near being just the US's problem; the fastest-growing economy right now is China's, and their fuel and energy consumption is rising incredibly fast. What policies of business or the US Government can help when the problem is entirely global?
Alternative energies are a joke. We're talking about a success ratio of something along the lines of 1:1. With that we've used up as much fuel in the production of the alternative as we've.
You faded out there.....and you're correct that all the noise made by Big Environment over solar, wind, etc. is a joke. Solar power is still way too inefficient, and can't be used for large-scale power generation (for reasons why, see "Know Nukes" by James P. Hogan). Wind is nice....when there's a wind. And when birds don't fly into the wind turbines and get chopped up.... And where there's a steady breeze.

Electric cars? Great idea......but you have to charge them up sometime, and guess where that power has to come from?
The argument is not that we're completely up the creek concerning oil, but the fact is that the era of cheap oil is over. It's done. No amount of national park drilling, switchgrass-snake-oil-growing, coal-mining is going to change the fact that Hubert's peak has come and gone.
Nope, but if it's there and can be gotten cheaply, we might as well go and get it.

For the long-term energy solution............well, I know what the answer will be, but it will take science a few decades to finalize it, and global leaders at least that long to embrace it.

Holy moley, that was, like, five years ago!

Uh, who were you at the Faire?

I think I might be "downer" than you think, after reading your reply earlier.

One thing I will warn you about: always be sure to check your facts. I did, and found that certain groups just plain make up shit to further their own aims and generate donations and memberships. Although it's a work of fiction, I've found State of Fear by Michael Crichton to be pretty illuminating.

'Course, it would be Bad if people were told that the average long-term temperature in small and mid-sized cities has actually fallen, not increased. :D

Actually solar power can help you now. One of my family members in Florida just built a new house they decided to fit the roof with solar panels to help out with the energy bill. I was told this past winter and some of the spring that the solar panels did so well at helping out that some months the power company writes them a check not bad I must say. Not that its going to make that big of a deal but thats some food for thought or maybe not who really gives a fuck..... I agree with paul you have to be a little bit cynical
