We got a lot of oldschool stuff in this week so far, including new albums from W.A.S.P., Anvil, and Bob Vincent's favorite band Meliah Rage.

We also got two demo type albums from some label in New York called Epicene from bands called Carrion and Behold The Arctopus, the latter of which is really good heavy technical prog metal type stuff. Got another demo from some black metal type band in Wisconsin called Tower of Babel (I guess they are singng about how evil Satan's cheese is), and a sampler with two songs from the new Diecast and The Haunted albums.

Meliah Rage. WTF? Please tell me this is something recorded 10+ years ago that was forgotten in someone's basement til now. Jimmy Marietta will be giddy.

I dunno, it might be new Meliah Rage (I haven't had time to fully inspect it). Hell, I even heard of a supposed Wargasm reunion! No, I'm not kidding.

The new The Haunted is...uh...different. If I had picked up the cd, and there wasn't anything written on it, after a listen, I simply would have dismissed the cd as just another american hardcore band. They've REALLY changed their sound. Not sure yet if it's a good thing either...

Kinda like a much heavier Shadows Fall, but not as good.

They fall into that "don't know when or how to use clean vocals" trap, the ones on those two songs don't sound too good, but the music itself is nice and heavy.

The first The Haunted single called "99" sounds great, it sounds much better than a demo version I heard earlier in the year. Their new album is out Oct. 19th.

Bob - it is a new Meliah Rage album, expect me/us to razz Jimmy on the air before we play a song off of it.

Daniel - it's because their original vocalist is back doing stuff with them. They never really were a so-called "death metal" band before even though they're mostly old At The Gates members, they were always a thrash band first and foremost in my eyes. Their vocalist does sound like he's trying his best to do hardcore style vocals over some good old thrash though.

I like the first song a lot, the second one is kinda iffy... not to mention the "motherfuck" in the very beginning.

I actually don't have The Haunted's very first album, so that's prolly why the vocals were a bit of a shock to me. It's really cool thrashy music, but the vocals....eh...I'd prefer they did just straight up death metal growls. That one song where he actually sings shocked the shit out of me! The Haunted! Clean vocals! :3y3s: I imagine this album, given the current musical climate, will be very well received.

I still haven't quite figured out what it is or exactly how it's played...Hopefully B...TA will make their way down here sometime and we can see for ourselves.

Wait a minute....I always said I NEVER championed for the band, I just met the guy he had a band and fuck if the guy has only just now stopped bothering me about his damn band. I never said they were that great, and it wasn't Powers Ferry it was Paces Fairy (at least thats what I thought the band meant). :m1c:

But who said it was my "golden find?" I thought when I was listening to nothing new they sounded good, but then I heard the new shit and cleaned out my earwax and noticed that it wasn't really that good. :sm0k3:

Dan was the one that said I should send the band's material to the station which I never fuckin did. :P

That instrument kinda reminds me of a Chapman Stick. VERY cool, when played in the hands of a master. There are very few of those.

According to the press sheet that got sent with it he calls it a "war harp".

You'll all see for yourself how it sounds tonight, unless the CD has mysteriously wandered off from where I left it.
