Yeah, the black guy is William, who is from Atlanta and was in the Atlanta hardcore punk band Neon christ when he was 16, back in '83. Badass dude, badass guitarist and pretty damn good singer.

While I also loved Layne's vocal stylings, you have to remember that the songwriting workhorse in AIC was always Jerry. I'll also agree that Layne took a lot of Jerry's songs to that new, more intense level. But if I were Mr. Cantrell, I wouldn't be letting the death of my former junkie lead singer end the band I had essentially built.
So, good for him. The songs are still great and he continues to have an audience interested in hearing them. Will it be ever be the same? No. Should he retire the music he wrote in AIC because Layne ended up being a selfish idiot? No.

I heard that a DJ in Australia asked Mike Patton about the rumor that he had been asked about replacing Michael Hutchence. Mike's reply: "I told them I'd do it under one condition...that they let me hang myself on stage every night."
