Metal: A Headbanger's Journey
Metal: A Headbanger's Journey...............
did anyone see this movie/documentary on metal music?
it is showing on vh1 occassionaly, but of course they will eventually replay the fuck out of this.....
i liked this movie a lot...they touched on a lot of sub-genres of metal and they didnt just waste all their time on OLD metal bands like motley crue or twisted sister though they are featured in the movie.....
my favorite section of the movie was the section about satanism and metal....
they interviewed some pretty hard-core black metal dudes....they interviewed a band member from the band gorgoroth who cracks me the fuck up with his answers to the questions he is being asked...they talk with him about the burning of historic churches over there in europe being done by black metal enthusiasts and he expresses that "more will be done" how he hates christianity and such....this was funny to me, but tottally METAL!!!!
also they talked about a band called burzum.....they had something to do with the burning of churches.....but anyway, i had remembered i was given a copy of a burzum album (ragnarok: a new beginning) years ago when i was like 14 by my mom's friend...this album came out around the same time of the burning of those churches...ironically inside the cd case in the little booklet that comes with the cd, it says---- "coming soon...to a church near you...BURZUM".... i laughed.... that was so METAL...this album looks pretty rare though...on the back of the cd case it has a little section with the words "limited edition of 1000 copies...this is copy #561"
i feel pretty special to have this now though i didnt understand this album when it was given to me years ago...............................rabble rabble

I saw it at the FOX as well and currently own the dvd. If you liked the black metal bit, get the dvd. There is a follow up documentary about the origins of black metal in Norway and it's very informative. It goes into a lot of stuff that Lords of Chaos did not.
Like Blaze said, there were a few things I wished they had done better but you have to hand it to them for explaining so much about metal and doing such athorough job in 90 minutes.
Some other highlights from the dvd are the extended interviews; more with just about everybody including Dime and Vinny Paul and an especially hilarious interview with Lemmy.

I got the dvd, and I second what kamal said. As a documentary it's a very good movie, but I wish that there was more real concert footage in it. I'd have liked to have seen more of that Mayhem bit with the pigs head. And some of those Slayer and Venom concerts looked interesting.
That bit with Gaahl was just kind of sad... Gaahl just struck me as being kind of like a Satanist D&D role-playing dude who takes his "role" too seriously. Geek much, Gaahl? The one with Mayhem was just funny, but I had to hand it to Sam Dunn for even approaching those motherfuckers to begin with; took some balls. Strangely enough the interview with Fenriz seemed a lot more like he's got his head on straight, and he seemed to have more of a sense of humor about everything. The Emperor one too showed Ihsahn and Samoth and their responses made a lot more sense in the context of the rest of the world, as opposed to Gaahl's "there's nothing but Satan" kind of attitude. I wish he'd had an interview with Jon Nordveidt(sp?) - that would have been an interesting juxtaposition.
