I think he had more than one chance to leave before the police got there. I agree he got what was coming to him to bad they didn't break out the billy club and formally introduce him to a good beating.

they didn't overstep their bounds....the guy was being abrasive and barking orders at the cops so they tased his ass. he was obviously being a complete dick and not complying with anything they asked him to do.
the silliest thing about it is the fact that the cops were perfectly calm and asking him to just comply with their orders. they weren't beating his ass or calling him names or doing anything besides what they told him they were going to do. if a cop says "stand up or we are going to taser you again" then stand up! its that simple. thats not police brutality, thats police asking someone to do something and then following through with the punishment due.
can you spell SPOILED RICH KIDS!

Uh, the whole point of this shit is that he didn't do anything BEFORE HE GOT TASED THE FIRST TIME.BlazeTSU wrote:they didn't overstep their bounds....the guy was being abrasive and barking orders at the cops so they tased his ass. he was obviously being a complete dick and not complying with anything they asked him to do.

If I fucking got tased FOR NO APPARENT REASON, I'm pretty sure I'd be pissed off, too.
I hope the kid sues them.

He was already leaving.
He cried out that he had a medical condition, yet they continued to taser him.
& UCLA is public just like Tech, so I'm confused as to what any of this has to do with money.
I'd really think you'd be a little more mature than to have some sort of bullshit 'rich college kid' mentality.

If I ing got tased FOR NO APPARENT REASON, I'm pretty sure I'd be ed off, too.

so they just walked into the room and picked a student to tase? i doubt it holly.
in the video the kid is screaming at the cops and they are asking him to leave. he just keeps yelling. then they tase his ass and he starts whining about a damn health condition and saying that he said he would leave. then when they asked him to get up and friggin leave he wouldn't. they gave him ample time to comply and then told him he was going to get tased again. he didn't comply so they tased his ass again. and once again he said "aaahhhh....ahhhhh...ahhhhhhhhhhh.... i said i was going to leave"
thats bullshit. if he was going to leave he would've stood up and walked out the damn door.
we live in such a silly time that cops can't even do their jobs b/c people sue them for everything. its BS. if we are going to have law enforcement they have to be respected and complied with.
NEWSFLASH--------THE NATION IS A LOT LESS SAFE WITHOUT COPS! IF YOU ARE AN TO THE COPS YOU DESERVE TO GET YOUR ASS TASED, BEATEN, or SHOT!
and like i said before, those cops weren't even pissed off. they weren't getting their rocks off.......they were doing their damn job.

This is documented.
That's because I think the video picks up after he's already been tased once.in the video the kid is screaming at the cops and they are asking him to leave. he just keeps yelling. then they tase his ass and he starts whining about a damn health condition and saying that he said he would leave. then when they asked him to get up and friggin leave he wouldn't. they gave him ample time to comply and then told him he was going to get tased again. he didn't comply so they tased his ass again. and once again he said "aaahhhh....ahhhhh...ahhhhhhhhhhh.... i said i was going to leave"
thats bullshit. if he was going to leave he would've stood up and walked out the damn door.
He was leaving, hence why he said he was going to leave, BECAUSE HE WAS ALREADY WALKING TOWARD THE DOOR.
& what is ample time to comply when that kind of a shock has gone through your body?
They could have just as easily taken him out of the building while he was limp than wait to see if he stands up.
Chances are, if you're getting tased, you're not standing up right away.
Common sense.
Hey, let's generalize some more, because my initial response totally means that I hate cops!we live in such a silly time that cops can't even do their jobs b/c people sue them for everything. its BS. if we are going to have law enforcement they have to be respected and complied with.

Just because they weren't pissed off doesn't mean that they handled things well.
When a mob of people is telling you to stop because you're very obviously hurting a non-violent person, isn't that a good cue to stop?
When someone asks you for your name and badge number, don't you usually give it to them instead of threaten to tase them, too?
Whether or not the situation began rightfully, they are the ones who let it escalate to a level that it shouldn't have, and THAT is where they failed to do their jobs.

i didn't say anything about "rich college kid" matter of fact i could care less where it happend. i would still consider that guy to be a spoiled rich kid. he was acting like a spoiled person and it had nothing to do with his surroundings. anytime somebody is told that there is punishment for not complying with someone in authority and then that person in turn screams out in unbelief that they actually got punished for their actions.......to me thats being spoiled.
and was it proven that he had a health condition? seriously, i don't know and would like to know. its really not that rare for someone to say that bullshit to a cop. i've first hand seen someone tell cops not to cuff them b/c they had a bone disease while getting arrested for battery.

hahahaha, holly, are you serious. "that kind of shock" what kind of "shock" do you think that they hit him with? he wasn't incapacitated at all. matter of fact he never stopped running his damn mouth. he was never limp, he was never quiet and at least during the video he was never leaving.
so we should start letting "a mob of people" tell our police officers what do do? i don't think so. COMMON SENSE.When a mob of people is telling you to stop because you're very obviously hurting a non-violent person, isn't that a good cue to stop?
its not out of precedure to tell people to "stay back or i'm going to arrest you too" or "stay back if you don't want to get shot". thats how cops control crowds and keep themselves safe. they can't have everyone around them approaching them while in the middle of a situation. if they did then we'd have a lot more dead cops on our hands. When someone asks you for your name and badge number, don't you usually give it to them instead of threaten to tase them, too?
ok, they were excesive with the multiple tasings but they did give him warning that if he didn't comply that they were going to do it again. he obviously could've gotten up and left the building but decided to yell and scream at them instead. thats why i say that he is a spoiled rich kid. in my opinion, if he wasn't a brat he would've handled himself differently.
but yeah, they shouldn't have tased him more than once or maybe twice. if it was that serious they probably should've just arrested his ass and been on their way.

As a current UCLA student and one who has been involved with this university for over 8 years now, I can tell you the late-night ID checks in Powell are neither random nor unprecedented. I’ve had this happen many times through the years. The CSOs come by (CSO = enrolled student, not cop, who has a radio and pepper spray and the authority to do not a lot more than ask you to comply with university regulations or state, local, and federal laws, then use aforementioned radio to call in someone to enforce your compliance if/when you refuse) and announce in a loud voice that they’ll be checking IDs and that anyone not possessing a Bruin Card will be asked to leave. This is a well-known policy. It is a posted policy. It is also a policy that I have observed being enforced every night I’ve been in the library after hours on every student present without regard to sex, color, manner of dress, or size of latte consumed. When you don’t have a Bruin Card, you’re asked to leave. If you don’t leave, you’re told the cops will come. If you still don’t leave, the cops are called.
At the point the actual gun-carrying, law-enforcing police arrive, it’s a little late to try and talk your way out of the situation or try and make a run for it…
We’ve had incidents of students being harassed, mugged, pick-pocketed and assaulted, just as any community has (incidentally, the UCPD and CSOs provide free escort services to anyone who requests it after hours in order to maintain the safety of students. All one has to do is pick up one of the numerous campus phones and call). If you refuse to leave when asked to do so, your behavior is already suspicious and grounds for at least detainment and questioning…
Based off the tone and intensity of his cries to not touch him, I think it might be reasonable to assume that Tabatabainejad may have jerked back violently from the officer’s grasp, shoved an officer, or otherwise reacted with a sudden physical outburst to accompany his vocal one. If I’m a cop, this would signal to me that I might not be dealing with a rational individual. Logic doesn’t work without the ability to rationalize, so sometimes force must be employed, whether verbal, non-verbal, physical, non-lethal, or lethal…
I find it odd that a student would respond in such a way if he were met with calm and reasonable demands from officers. I find it odd that the police would resort to the tactics they chose if the suspect in question clearly appeared to be a student or was complying in a timely and respectful fashion with their instructions…
I find it more odd that my fellow students would be so quick to organize rallies and protests against police brutality. Unless I’ve been living under a rock somewhere, this is the first incident I can recall in which the UCPD here at UCLA had to resort to this kind of force in dealing with a student.
He doesn’t really find that last part odd, though, does he?
You’ll be gratified to know that the Islamic Republic is now involved, its tender feelings having been hurt by the tasering of one of its “nationals.†Except that Tabatabainejad isn’t an Iranian national; he’s an American citizen. The foreign ministry vows that it’s “seriously pursuing the case.†Will Tabatabainejad accept their help? The blogosphere waits with bated breath to find out.
