Jesus, I would kill to see that show in 1988, all three bands were in their top form at that time.Knucklehead wrote: - Anthrax/Exodus/Helloween, Original Headbanger's Ball Tour, Cobo Hall, Detroit, MI 1988 (Not so much about the Helloween)

Exodus abso-fucking-lutely blew me away. I did not understand them until I saw them live. It was an epiphany. I never really cared for Exodus before that, but when I saw Gary Holt holding his guitar parallel to the ground by the tremolo bar, I realized that I had to rethink how I approached listening to music. Thrash/speed metal was so very young then. I realized that this music was not just about creating a mood that caused physicality, but that physicality was present when the music was initially created. In other words, it wasn't instigus/response, with music causing you to beat your fellow concert-goer, but a cycle where the music was the response. "Good friendly violent fun" suddenly made all kinds of sense. Like I said, I'm old, and I hang far back from the pit these days.samsara wrote:all three bands were in their top form at that time.
Along those lines, I don't understand the kids these days with their wind-milling and tae bo bullshit. The Pit was a communal release -- pummeling and being pummeled. But it was communal. Wind-milling seems so self-involved to me, because it takes up so much room. [/soapbox]
Maiden was the first band that I saw live. That would have been the Powerslave tour in '84 or '85. "The Number of the Beast" gave me chills.samsara wrote:Has anyone on here ever seen Maiden live?
