At the Dying Fetus show, this hardcore kid came up to me and my friend duriong one of the breaks and he was actually moshing to have fun, not the typical karate kick bs and he was saying how much fun he was having. Well, he said he used to go to metal shows alot a long time ago so that may have something to do with it...holly wrote:I grew up in hardcore, and so did my husband (in two completely different communities). I am telling you that you are wrong.Brian wrote:I've been to plenty. I'm not saying that every hardcore kid acts like that, but the stereotype exists, at least among the metal community, that the typical hardcore dancer is only in there to injure people. You can't deny that. It doesn't mean it's true, but it's out there.holly wrote:Go to a hardcore show.Brian wrote:Yeah, the show kicked ass. There were a few inbred douchebags in the pit who had the stereotypical hardcore kid mentality (purposefully trying to hurt people who aren't in the pit) but everything else was great. I didn't think Immolation was all that great, but they sounded good so I guess that counts for something. Skinless and Suffocation were absolutely incredible though.
Kind of sucks that Immolation's tour with Rotting Christ and Belphegor isn't coming here though
You have no idea what you're talking about.
but I do see alot of assholes at the Masquerade that are there to injure people (including a dude of the business type throwing elbows). I'm sure that when a group of hardcore kids mosh together, they don't want to hurt each other but seeing what I see at some metal shows, I don't think they care about hurting anyone who is not into the hardcore scene. This is based on totally what I see.
They had you do a drug test and the forgot to test for drugs???

Point is, what you guys tend to label as a hardcore kid is anything but. I can think of a handful of hardcore kids that I know go to hardcore AND metal shows in the first place, so I really doubt that so many of you could be having so many bad experiences just from a handful of kids.
Blanket labeling is stupid. Just because a band is doing metalcore or something that isn't 100% metal, that doesn't mean that it's hardcore (which is isn't). Hardcore still hasn't strayed that much from the old classics (Black Flag, Minor Threat, Sick of it All, Madball, etc.).

that guy I mentioned who was throwing elbows...he was doing that while just walking through the crowd...not in the pit. I don't appreciate getting a hard elbow in my back from some douchebag who is trying to prove he has a big dick.

Well, shoulda punched him in the face or confronted him. No use bitching about it here.Metalfreak wrote:BlazeTSU wrote:a pit is not suppossed to tickle!
I know that! I just hate when there are anuses who deliberately try to seriously hurt people.

times have changed when assholes can do that. in the past there were some unwritten laws at shows that were enforced by the crowd. in the past if someone was walking through the crowd throwing elbows they would've gotten their asses kicked by everyone around. if someone threw a punch in the pit then the pit would basically collapse on them and everyone in the crowd made sure that it never happend again.
assholes are always going to be at shows. its the rest of the people at the show that need to step up and make sure that these jerks behave. these jackasses can ruin an entire show if you just let it happen but if everyone steps up to stop it then it gets resolved real quick and you can move onto enjoying the evening. don't take shit from anybody........no matter what catergory they fall under; metal, hardcore, punk.....whatever.
They really need to come up with another name for the "modern" hardcore kids to avoid all of this "blanket labeling" as you called it.holly wrote:Point is, what you guys tend to label as a hardcore kid is anything but. "Modern" hardcore kids still listen to hardcore.samsara wrote:They really need to come up with another name for the "modern" hardcore kids to avoid all of this "blanket labeling" as you called it.holly wrote:Point is, what you guys tend to label as a hardcore kid is anything but. That is my point.
What I'm trying to say is that what a lot of you guys into metal consider to be a "hardcore kid" isn't what a hardcore kid is.
I guess that wasn't clear.
Nah, I wasn't referring to the almost but not quite metal bands...I was talking about bands who I've seen and witnessed this happening. Stuff like The Chariot, Norma Jean, Underoath w/the old singer, Blood Brothers, etc. They might not fit the strictest definition of "hardcore," but there is no denying that their roots are there. I don't know of anyone who would consider them to be metal.holly wrote:"Modern" hardcore kids still listen to hardcore.samsara wrote:They really need to come up with another name for the "modern" hardcore kids to avoid all of this "blanket labeling" as you called it.holly wrote:Point is, what you guys tend to label as a hardcore kid is anything but. It's like the whole emo argument. Sure, Antioch Arrow, Fugazi, Moss Icon, Rites of Spring, and all those other bands were the "original" emo. But the definition has changed with the times.
