Wolves in the Throne Room
High on Fire
Vreid
Shining
Sigh
Malignancy
Dodheimsgard
Baroness

Those are all the metal albums that really impressed me this year. Others I liked a lot but found myself not listening to them much for some reason.

I actually spent a lot of this year listening to other stuff. There was some great non-metal stuff from Battles, the Rosebuds, Sunset Rubdown, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Twink, Radiohead, and others.

Forgot about Tegan & Sara! What a great album. I think Pitchfork under-scored that one. I did like the stuff Jesu did this year as well.

Never got into Neon Bible, but I'm glad they didn't try and make another Funeral.

neon bible sucked compared to funeral, in my opinion. they dialed it in and all that festival playing went straight to their heads.... they were trying to make more stadium anthems and forgot how to write a record.

Of Montreal
Dark Tranquillity
Baroness
Wolves in the Throne Room
Sigh
Shining
Band of Horses
Symphony X
Deathspell Omega
The Ocean (although I haven't had this one for long so I might get bored of it)

Edit: Forgot the new Minus the Bear, that goes somewhere on the list too.

Yes, you do. Wolves in the Throne Room was reviewed in the fucking Technique!

Brian, did you like Band of Horses that much? I haven't heard the whole album, but I wasn't crazy about the songs I heard. Maybe it's a grower. I liked their first album a lot.

I thought the new Dark Tranquillity was pretty damn dull.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a DT fanboy. Just about anything they release will make it into my top albums for the year.

The only album of theirs I've listened to extensively is Character, which is one of my favorite Melodeath albums.

I really should give Damage Done another play, too.

Wow, Wolves in the Throne Room is amazing.
I also happen to like Black Metal. So if you're into black metal, you need to here their newest album. And the one before it.
It's like a soundtrack to the destruction of the Earth. Cause they're crazy and all into ecology and shit.

DT is one of my all-time favourites. Haven is in my top 10 of any albums in any genre. Methinks it's brilliant.

BlackRoija, is there any way that I could get some of those albums from you? I think I saw you on soulseek one time, do you still use that or am I thinking of someone else?
